Honestly this is a failing on your part about how the executive branch functions.

A corpse is always more preferable to a fascist. A corpse is always more preferable to someone who labels migrants who pick avacados as invaders.

The executive branch is ran by staffers, not a single man. His ideology and fascist tendencies if he has them can influence how the executive branch operates in installing fascism.

A declining cognitive president is just a puppet who will be a figurehead. But he won't actively try to install fascism.

I care about Biden's cognitive decline more so because I understand this country has a bunch of lead poisoned humans who believe in outdated concepts like how a single charismatic man is what drives things like negotiations and policy making. They believe strongly in outdated concepts about things like masculinity and charisma being the main traits to be president.

A president is someone who hires a bunch of people and then signs off on what those people do. They barely do much decision making outside of saying "yes" or "no".

A fascist though can do a lot more than that. They can actively push for things like "banning commies".

CNN with the dereliction of its journalistic duty to fact check the debaters. No balls, no morals. Still latched to Trump's teat as always.

DNC with the dereliction of its civic duty to provide a coherent candidate who and can rebut Trump's nonsense. Any competent debater would be salivating at the chance to debate Trump.

The most obvious candidates to me are:
    • Gretchen Whitmer: popular midwest governor, evaded an assassination attempt, can carry a state that matters to the electoral college, and carries herself well
    • Gavin Newsom: I don't think he can win, but the governor of America's most economically powerful state will want to run and he is sharp
    • Josh Shapiro: first term governor of Pennsylvania, another state that matters
    • Wes Moore: young, former investment banker, combat veteran
I like Raphael Warnock as a VP, but you can't create a vacant Georgia Senate seat. He's stuck because of who would fill his seat.

CNN cares more about their appearance of "being fair" or "not partisan". Their calculation was that correcting Trump would be a bad look for their neutrality.

If this is true and I am a straight ticket democrat voter, I am hibernating for the next 4 years.

yeah, well. pretty sure Trump is not committed to a second debate with Biden in September. He's gonna ride this one to November.

    Bigotry of low expectations.

So what about a Republican voter?

Should they worry about their candidate not being able to label any claim he makes as "the best of all time" or "the worst of all time"?

This is what straight-ticket Democrats envisioned leading up to 9:01 PM last night

Ronald Reagan was stupid the moment he decided to be in politics. He never was a intelligent man in terns of understanding how society works. He was charismatic and dumb.

If Trump is kind and respectful, he will decline.

Bidens decline is now being measured in weeks, not months. 3 months is a long long time for Biden.

boy, I think you pretty severely misjudge Reagan. I don't think you get elected governor of California and president of the United States by being dumb.

"Dumb" in terms of intellectual curiosity in understanding how things like policy decisions function and how they effect people in systemic ways.

He was charismatic, white, tall, smooth speaker etc, all the things lead poisoned white suburbia loved... but smart? Intellectually curious? No. Absolutely not. Dude put a multi level marketing tycoon in charge of "fighting aids".

I wasn't a Reagan fan, but I still think you're underestimating him. He had an "aw shucks" persona that worked for him politically with voters. Again, I do not believe you can win a presidential election and navigate eight successful years as president and be dumb at the same time. Look at the enormous respect Tip O'Neill had for him. That had to have been rooted in an honest awareness of Reagan's considerable strengths.

Again, dumb in terms of intellectual curiosity in understanding how policy decisions systemically effects populations. He was a platitudes guy.

He was charismatic in how to navigate social circles of he political establishment. If you want to call that a type of "intelligence " sure I guess.

His poll #'s did not jump after he became a convicted felon. They stayed roughly the same and, in some cases, went down. Saying they jumped is factually incorrect and you're either lying like he does or just sadly misinformed. Does the term "The Central Park 5" mean anything to you? How about the fact that he was literally sued for racial discrimination for not renting to...you guessed it...people of color. If the next thing you're going to say is that he changed...why couldn't the same be true of President Biden? I'm not saying he is or was a racist but I won't say he didn't make mistakes decades ago either.

But you know these things...or at least I hope you do.

One doesn't become a serious presidential candidate being dumb. As much as I dislike Harris, she isn't stupid. She is just incompetent for the job.

Rest assured I am going to vote the same way you are. I would not vote for a draft dodging, habitual liar, authoritarian wannabe, putin luvin, deceitful, narcissistic, anarchistic, zero moral character donald j. trump.

In addition to voting for a corpse before I would vote for trump I would probably hold my nose and vote for AOC if she was running against trump. The performance by Biden was extremely disappointing and about as bad as it gets. No other way to spin it.

The only silver lining to spin in this is that it happened in June instead of right before the election. I am just surprised that after he had a week to prepare he performed so poorly. And claiming that he had a cold was kind of lame IMO. Those that were prepping him surely knew something was not right with him. They should have postponed the debate. Quite frankly it was both sad and embarrassing.
