Bill Simmons is stuck in a previous era. I wish we would just talk about max deals as a percentage of the overall cap, that way people aren't going bat **** crazy about the dollar figure. The cap has gone up, get with the times folks.

Let's say he plays 36 minutes a game. 36/240 = 15%. So he should get at least 15% of the cap. Add another 15% because he's pretty good. You get to 30% of the cap. If the salary cap is 155 million in 25-26 when his contract starts, he would get about 29% of the cap with his new contract averaging about 45 million a year.

Not bad. We need to start using the percentage of the overall cap in these discussions. The media won't do it, but we could.

If you asked, "Is Barnes worth 270M?" The answer is probably, "Doesn't look like it, at least not yet."

But if you asked, "Is Barnes a max kind of player?" The answer for most people is "yes!"

The thing is, his max is 270M. So what do we know?

Regardless if anyone thinks he deserves that type of moola, Barnes now is getting paid that much money. The reality of NBA wealth.

'Raptors forward Scottie Barnes left midway through the third quarter because of a sprained right ankle. Barnes was helped off the court by teammates before hopping to the locker room, unable to put weight on his right foot.

Barnes missed 11 games earlier this season because of a right orbital fracture and has worn protective glasses since returning Nov. 21. Toronto went 2-9 without the 2022 NBA Rookie of the Year.' NBA com
