I do agree that he's more of a SG right now than PG, but I'm not nearly as high on the rest of the team as you are. The Rockets were one of the worst passing teams despite FVV being a huge plus in this area last season. I am optimistic Amen can be that guy in the future, but it's still a projection. Jalen is obviously a contentious guy to judge, but I think his playmaking acumen is just never going to be great. I still like the pick in spite of that because I didn't find anyone else I liked more. But he has fit issues as a SG with everyone except Sengun, where he can easily play the early career Jamal Murray role if we're using the Jokic/Denver comparison.
I understand that it is an easy approach to only care about the cream, but we have assets the cost of each being at least one season of forced losing. We care about the whole jug, not just the cream at the top, because any one of those players can also net us great assets. We do have a hand in development, players aren't just going to be whatever they were going to be. Not wise to act blind to this stuff. We could run a competition no matter who's on the roster, we don't have to play russian roulette with all our high value assets.
I don’t understand some of these takes. If you watch his video, it’s clear he can play point. I think some people need to see a player dribble between their legs for 18 seconds to gauge if they can be a PG.
For clarity, are you saying you view Sheppard as a career backup? Because in the short term, anybody they drafted would have been a back up. I think even for the next 2-3 years unless there are serious injuries or a drastic trade.
They are looking for flash and all they are finding is substance. That upsets a certain type of fan while it rightfully excites others.
I think the thing I am most excited about with all this is the Sheppard - VanVleet connection. Having VanVleet here to provide mentorship should provide a ton of value to Sheppard's growth as VanVleet can teach him how to use his smaller frame to his advantage against the much larger NBA competition. Very, very exciting.
rotflmao I will add I have high hopes Jalen will come out of the gate strong and prove he belongs. If not then yes he needs to be benched.
It will all be up to Ime. He has the groceries now. It is up to him to cook the meal and see how much of each ingredient he adds before he narrows down to the final recipe.
