I don't know about any of this, but if I heard Richard Jefferson say "the Spurs are the greatest player development franchise in sports" one more time... you can only live off of the legacy of Tim Duncan for so long.
It seems like it was not the case because it wasn't the case and nobody ever reported otherwise? But YMMV on the morning after.
stone is a genius kept Clingan in the fold had people guessing he would be the pick hate to see my guy Clingan drop to portland through but i see the spurs playin the two for one castle and then dillingham
Dumb post...Castle has a higher ceiling than Reed Shepherd. Once Castle develops a consistent 3pt shot, Wemby will make him an All-Star. Reed will be a great role player for us
Most anyone would have to admit that Castle is quite intriguing. His shooting is bad, but the guy is an elite level player. I contemplated wanting Castle with the Rockets pick early on, but this Rockets team needs elite shooting; very glad they went with Reed Sheppard.
Most of the mocks had iShepp going to the Rockets. Were the Spurs the only ones fooled? If the Spurs had wanted iShepp badly enough they could have moved up and drafted him.
Castle could develop a shot, but the odds aren't great--only a little bit better than the odds Amen does. If he doesn't shoot, he's going to have a hard time staying on the court. I don't buy the playmaking--I don't think he can play point guard. He's a rim-attacking shooting guard, who has excellent but not world-beating athleticism, and currently, no real 3P shot. There are a lot of "ifs" that need to be answered for him to even be a starter, let alone an all-star. There's a very real possibility he ends up being a defensive specialist off the bench for them.
I’m skeptical. All of the most insufferable posters on Clutchfans keep insisting Stone is an idiot. What should carry more weight: our objectively good situation (flush with picks, young talent, and a top-shelf coach), or the incessant b****ing and whining from miserable Clutchfans posters? It’s a tough call.
I was all the way out on Castle pretty early on. His shot is broken, he's flat out uncomfortable with the ball beyond the arc, he loves dribbling into traffic to put up mid range garbage he also can't make, and the ego thing where he was demanding to start at PG from day one. He should be a solid defender.... but that's about it.
Luck is definitely a big part of it, but Spurs are the team with Wemby. We love Sengun but we he's no Wemby. I only say that because we're comparing Rockets vs Spurs. Aside from that comparison, I think so far, Stone's done a decent but not great job. He's got Sengun, a borderline very promising young talent, but aside from Sengun, we still don't know. Amen COULD be great, JG COULD be great, but we don't know that yet. I think we know about Sengun, which is why Stone gets a passing grade. If he didn't have Sengun though, after 3-4 years of sucking, if all he's got is promising maybes/hopefuls, anybody could do that job.
Stone got lucky the Spurs didn't capitalize on their advantage. Spurs screwed themselves royally imo. They should have gotten Edey or Ware to go with Castle.
Castle is Jrue Holiday that can't shoot. Reed does almost everything else better on a basketball court and has better anticipation on defense. The only thing Castle does better than Sheppard is be a PoA defender. Reed clears him by almost every measure and it isn't particularly close.
One of the reason I really come to Clutchfans is how informative fellow posters are. I generally get my cliff notes from the typical national media sources. I kept hearing how he was projecting to be the best of the class, and if not for his abysmal shooting percentage he’d be a sure fire #1 pick. Ideal height, nba athleticism, elite defensive player, excellent ball handling, but subpar shooting! Sometimes shooting cannot be fixed… plain and simple. The muscle memory is what it is… Glad to hear your take on what you saw on Castle.
The comp for Castle is Ron Harper, right? In a perfect world, he develops out the game that Harper had, who was never really a threat from deep.
I don't want to give Stone too much credit on this, but I'll at least buy into the idea that he likely used mouthpieces to push the Clingan agenda and the "we're going to trade this pick" mantra to shield from his actual intentions of drafting Sheppard all along. If a GM is going to spread rumors, and you know they're going to be flying all over the place during the offseason, that's how you do it. Also, I know CF is split on the Brooklyn vs. Phoenix pick swap trade, but after having a minute to let it sink in, I like that trade more and more as well. Gives them more ammo in the long-term for a possible star trade and pushes picks down the road when they might actually need more youth on the roster. After an arguably shaky start to his tenure, I feel like Stone's had back-to-back really solid offseasons. He could do nothing in free agency, and I would feel very good about the direction of this franchise and the current roster heading into next season. Tons of upside. Very few holes.
