Looks like a bullpen day on Sunday. They have 9 RP so if the scrubs (King, Contreras, Dubin) can get thru 6 innings combined, they’ll probably be ok and roll with that (maybe rotating some other AAA 40 man arms like Whitley, Ort, Mushinski, Coleman, and Hernandez) until Bloss or JV are back.
Vlad Jr would look really good between Yordan and Bregman hitting cleanup. The problem is it would take multiple top 5 organizational prospects and 50% of the cost is because of his name. He is having a good season, but at his salary and potential salary next year, he should not cost Jacob Melton and Jake Bloss like I fear it will. And that's because if the Astros don't give them up, the Padres or Phillies, etc will.
NINE teams are currently within 4 games of 500 Record -- Run-Diff Astros - 40-40 -- +30 Padres - 44-41 -- +20 Mets - 38-39 - +1 DBacks - 39-40 -- -3 Nationals - 38-42 -- -15 Giants - 38-42 -- -29 Pirates - 39-41 -- -30 Cardinals - 40-38 -- -34 Rays - 40-41 -- -56 Astros are currently 10th in run-diff in MLB, and they're now Jabreu-less. It's pretty clear how this story will end. Stros just gotta maintain a decent amount of health going forward.
I would certainly like Vlad Jr., but I'm sure as he'll not paying for the imagined version of him that everybody seems to have. He's a good bat for 1B, not elite. He's been very consistent save for the one outlier superstar season.
It’s not like he’s cheap salary wise either. I don’t think the return they get is going to be as big as some here are thinking.
Perhaps the real question is, did Manfred force Crane to fire Luhnow. One of those, "we didn't fire him, he resigned" situations. If not, Jeff needs to rejoin the team. .
You're the same poster who pointed out how bad the Montero and Jabreu signings were. Luhnow posted on social media how bad the Montero deal was immediately after it happened. There's little doubt Jeff would *not* have made the same offer.
I would argue he's not even a *good* bat at 1B. He's prob just above-average at best for that position. He's had ONE awesome season out of 6 -- career 800 OPS and 120 OPS+ outside of that one big season. He's awesome compared to Singleton though, but no way I'm giving up multiple high prospects to get him. Then, there's the salary too. HARD PASS
Cool.... post the average HRs / RBIs for a 1B. I would bet Vlad is simply above-average. How is his defense? His baserunning seems above-average, so at least there's that.
Dont know the answer to this, but I would think Vlad's numbers would stack up pretty well. Best in the Stros division for sure.
I think we should go with the 2 headed monster at 1B. Dubon/Joey. sadly, I think Jon could be done. He just didn’t produce enough to keep looking at him at this point. Elite power but can’t access it enough. Oh well. I could see keeping him as a 3rd 1st baseman, occasional DH, and pinch hitter. Mainly due to the fact that Joey could really struggle, we don’t know yet. I don’t care about the batting average but it woulda been a cool story if big jon could’ve found a way to have 10 or 11 homers right now. We’d probably have a couple more wins too.
How many elite bats are at !B. 25-30 homers and .280-290 are pretty elite. Plus I think he would be even better with Tucker/Alvarez in the order.
