The reason for the Suns to do a small reset is that the team looked average for most of last season. Durant does not elevate the Suns to elite status and the suns know it. The Suns are going to work overtime to get a nice package, much like the Nets hit a grand slam with the Knicks and Rockets trade (a grand slam when they are put in perspective as one trade). If a team is going to give up assets for Durant, this is the year for the Suns to exploit Durants value. Though I hope the Rockets do not blow up what they are trying to build for the past 3 years, for a 2 or 3 year run with 37 year old Durant.
If they do make a trade this off-season I don't see it being a soft rebuild one where they are trying to get picks or young players back. They'd probably look to turn KD into a couple of lesser players so they can actually have some depth. I just don't see a KD to Houston trade happening this off-season in anyway. Woj and Windhorst are engagement farming
[Stephen A. Smith] "I am reporting here. Pay no attention to what Phoenix is saying. They want out of Kevin Durant right now."
Right. For Sengun, Green, Amen, Cam, Jabari, the #3 pick, all their picks, our firstborn children....
In reality, he never did, but they see now that he doesn't make a team better. He isn't inherently selfish but more like a lone wolf in a team game. The Rockets aren't strong enough on their own for him to lift the team to contender status, just like the Suns aren't.
The Suns are just built poorly. Their roster makes no sense. Booker/Beal/Durant was awful from the start. Durant can absolutely fit as part of a championship roster right now and be one of the best players, but the roster has to actually make sense.
KD on the Mavs actually makes sense, depending of what they give up. They just need an extra push and for Kyrie to play third fiddle.
KD makes more sense on the Mavs, Booker makes more sense with us. If you're going to blow it up to rebuild do it right, that will be a haul from both teams to PHX and everyone is happy.
