I see Amen ending up as a forward although having him and Sheppard in the backcourt would work. It could be interchangeable as to who plays PG on offense. I think Sheppard would fit well with anyone in the backcourt in either role.
It will be a couple of years, but that is what Sheppard will do if we are lucky enough to get him. DD
NBA FO’s and scouts don’t see a lot of ****, to be honest. Recall that Steph was picked 7th right behind Jonny Flynn. That Sam Cassell was picked 24th. That 2 time MVP Jokic was picked in the 2nd round. NBA FOs and scouts miss a whole lot all the time. That isn’t a Sheppard guarantee….but playing the “if he was a shoe in” suggests that there’s ever a shoe in (except for extreme examples)…they were all convinced (and I was too, wrongly) that Scoot was a shoe in…they were wrong, again.
In an era where positions are more and more unconventional, it doesn’t seem to matter who fits the traditional John Stockton mold of a PG. Amen can run the point…even if we call him a SF. Pairing him with a knock down shooter just seems like an easy decision to me, unless someone comes along and offers you a proven talent you can’t turn down. Otherwise, you don’t trade out of the top 3.
Well regardless, position less basketball for example with LeBron is able to succeed because LeBron can be a primary ball handler at his height. When people refer to taller guys like Amen who can playmaker like a PG they are referring to guys his size like LaMelo who can handle the ball and do things like handle full court presses and half court defenses constantly trying to stop our dribble. LaMelo is 6'8" ish and a large part of why he can play pg at that height is because of his handle. Amen of course can improve his handle and be that but it would be a massive improvement required. In terms of probability if he's going to be some savant playmaker it will look closer to someone like prime Draymond Green but a lot more athletic obviously.
I definitely could be wrong, fchowd. I am a lot. I THINK Amen’s upside is really high, and if he cares as much as I think he does, I know improving handles is hard and boring work that no one wants to do….it’s thankless time dribbling drills with cones that I’ve helped coach, and even coaching it isn’t fun Amen strikes me as the kind of dude to lean into that, but predicting human behavior is difficult, so who knows? I definitely don’t think Amen is LeBron though Also, no one does full court press in the NBA but that’s the bane of my existence coaching junior high kids!!!!!
I screamed from Heaven that Scoot wasn't any good and would be 3-4 years before he becomes a decent to good guard, and him being short, and having a terrible shot would hinder him. It seemed like I was the lone voice.....about him.....and got slammed......of course now, after the year he had, it is now crowded on that bus I am driving. Reed Sheppard and his High IQ, good athleticism and sweet shot will be a good to GREAT professional. DD
I was really wrong about Scoot. I own it! I think shooters just shoot, and if you can shoot like Reed, you likely have a place on my team.
Don't be too hard on yourself. He was right about one player, you were wrong about one... I'm sure if you count up the amount of times him or anyone else on the forum was wrong about a guy, there would be enough to rebuild the Great Wall x10. Plus, Scoot is on a team with a new coach that has no real structure or true direction after his rookie season. There's not telling if or when he takes a leap but I wouldn't entirely discount him immediately after his one lone year in the league.
i had a direct source one time in the nfl. a really good friend of Owen Daniels who had just became a FA. that source was told directly from owen that he was going to denver and that source relayed that to me. i mentioned it to people. that saaame day he signed with baltimore. sources are about as reliable as a DD prediction.
its funny how since it includes Jalen, fans will just not enjoy this hype video or "like" it. Me? im stoked to see what happens tomorrow.
Thanks. I don’t feel bad about being wrong on a player. Guys are paid a lot to evaluate all this and they get it wrong routinely. But I do appreciate the sentiment!
Also dude, there are no Ignite players that weren’t wholly unprepared for their rookie season compared to college and euro kids. They are always lagging in development. There’s a reason that program is gone. There’s a pattern there which I don’t think has to do with Scoot. Expect Scoot to be what you thought but 1-2 years later than expected.
