The owner does like Sheppard, but the general feeling is that he can be talked into liking other players as well. A lot of this is getting Udoka and Stone on the same page with making a pick.
This is the classic struggle between a coach wanting a player that will help him win right now and a player that may help more in a couple of seasons. It is why there is a GM that is separate.
i like to think risacher and reed are 1a and 1b for the rockets. I do not get the clingan love and sarr would be my clear 3rd. have you done a personal big board this year nook?
I love Udoka as our coach, motivator, culture guy, and face of the organization. Was my dream coaching pick for us before he even left Boston. Do not love Udoka (or any coach) making draft decisions. I don't want the GM in practices and don't want the coach making draft picks or trades. Don't want the owner doing either. Just my opinion.
So not that bad at all then? I feel like we should be perfectly fine with not wasting good draft picks on mediocre big men with roleplayer numbers, especially when we have a non mediocre big man with all-star numbers...
If you add Risacher, Stone will have to get on the phone and get some work done because that team has too many forwards. My best guess is that Stone would prefer an easier path.
@Nook “iko koolaid kelly” what do you think the odds are we keep this pick, or as ch44 posted.. there’s a good chance we trade down? and which player would be our target further down?
I'm confused why fans aren't salivating over a #3 for #10 and Kessler trade down possibility. If one loves the rim protecting big mold so much, and if CH44/others have said we are looking to trade back and have guys we like at the end of the lotto, isn't this perfect? Kessler was one of the best shot blockers in college history, has chemistry with Jabari, has averaged 3.7 blocks with only 3.4 fouls per 36, is 7ft without shoes, is less lumbering than Clingan, doesn't have the same agent as Sengun, has been coming off the bench already, is going into his 3rd year and is more seasoned than a Rook for Ime. If we can get probably 80% of what people are dreaming Clingan could be, and another swing at a guard or wing prospect like (Topic/Dillingham/Carter/McCain/Carrington/Holland/Knecht/Williams/Salaun). Is that not the perfect outcome? Especially in a draft supposedly lacking high end upside at the top?
The Udoker wants defense, defense and more defense and even better, guys who can “win now” with defense. (Like a Smart or Bridges). Defense is nice. And I get it, don’t want to sacrifice their defense for shooting. But I got enough “dawgs”, I got enough defense, I got enough guys that already can’t shoot. Clingan and Sengun will NEVER play together. You’re drafting a backup center or you’re trading Sengun and Clingan is your new center. Castle, we drafted Castle last year. … “Insurance in case Amen doesn’t work out.” Umm ok I guess? Risacher, I’m not totally opposed to but they are just so loaded at forward. Bari, Tari, Brooks, Amen, Cam, Tate… I suppose it makes it easier to trade one of them, if necessary? So if they trade this pick (for Smart or whoever), I’m gonna blame Udoka (and maybe lesser degree Tilman but mainly Udoka). Udoka should look at his former team. He had the two-big lineup. Mazulla/Stevens ditched it, inserted another shooter.
We listened to Udoka when it came to Dillon Brooks and now we're stuck with a shitty player....I don't think we should be listening to Udoka when it comes to player evaluation. He's the coach not the GM.
Officially: they want to add a star, and see Kessler as an enticing trade piece Unofficially: 3 point shooting issues
You could say that for any of the top 3 or so You have an upgraded B Sura/M Maloney being flanked by many to go 3rd overall And some claiming Stone should be fired if he passed up Maloney 2.0 for this Center....... Katt Richard type comedy level of PR from all angles, not just this UConn prospect This draft reminds me of when that center (3pt shooting big) from Raptors went 1st
You are right. Defense is nice until we end up with Marcus Smart and reach a top 5 defense with a bottom 5 offense . I really like Udoka, but if he's the one pushing for Marcus Smart (who sucks ass at shooting) when we are already paying FVV big bucks then he needs to stfu. We need to prepare for a FVV replacement and that needs to be Amen and/or Reed Sheppard IMO.
I just read Reed made over fifty percent of his threes taken beyond 27 ft. That’s some crazy good stuff there. Am I turning into a sheepherder? @juanm34
