Reed is the pick if he turns out to be as good as lots of people think you can't afford to pass him up. DD
I think they're giving it one more season to see which of the young guys are worth building around. And of course now that they're no longer tanking, they still want to win as many games as possible. But NEXT summer is when I see them truly moving into win-now mode and making a few moves to form the team they hope to contend with. To be honest, I'm stunned at the patience Tilman has shown, but I think he weighed the mediocrity treadmill vs tanking for a few years so you can become true contenders, and decided the chances of winning a title were better this way..
I think they're saying he's going to be a plus defender like Lonzo, while having an offensive game similar to Price
Thats a plausible take, but if a superstar becomes available that the Rockets like, I am not sure they hesitate to push their chips in to try and get him.
I'm so worried that Atlanta or Washington will take the Shep. I hope they all believe the Rockets influencers and hlmbasketball and badcoachlee, etc.
Sure, but I think it would have to be someone they think is a perfect fit for the rebuilt roster, a guy they see being here long-term. I can't see them spending significant assets on a 1- or 2-year rental like Donovan Mitchell.
I'm not worried. For one thing, I doubt that will happen--Atlanta seems pretty fixated on Risacher and Reed isn't a great fit for them, Washington needs more upside and Sarr would be perfect for them if available. Maybe if Atlanta takes Sarr I could kinda-sorta see Washington taking Sheppard? But even if he's off the board--he's not the only solid prospect in this class, nor even the only good fit. If Sarr were to drop to us I think that would be a no-brainer. Risacher is a good prospect. Heck, even Carter or Knecht would be fine. I mainly just don't want the Rockets to pick Clingan (no minutes for him) or another non-shooting wing. I know you're hyper-fixated on Reed Sheppard, but you have to admit there are multiple good players in every draft class.
Is Reed Sheppard the most popular draft prospect EVER on Clutchfans? Just noticing this thread is at 124 pages in ~ month. I couldn't think of any other players that had this kind of buzz prior to the draft around here. There were certainly other players that garnered interest but I haven't seen 124 pages in 1 month prior to the draft kind of interest.
Kind of silly if so, because if we pick him, he'll easily be the weakest prospect at the time of the draft we've gotten in the top 4 during this rebuild Though to be fair, the fit was a lot less clear for prior picks. He does slot in very nicely on this roster.
You mean to say he's got less hype. Green was a bust waiting to happen and Smith was always going to be a mediocre role player. With Amen coming in shooting the ball like a middle school b team player, it's fair to say Sheppard would be the best prospect picked by the Rockets in the top 4 at the time of the draft.
It's a shitty draft and Reed is a very safe pick and his attributes theoretically fits our current crop of young players.
I think Sarr's defense will play in the NBA pretty much right away. He's shown enough in a high-level league that I feel fairly confident he won't be a total bust. He could end up just being a good bench big, but so too could Reed Sheppard just end up being a good backup guard. From what I've seen, both of them have some development to do in order to become starting-caliber players. That's just what kind of draft this is... we're talking about players in the top 3 whose downside is "good bench player" and realistic ceiling is "low-level/fringe all-star". I highly doubt Sarr gets past Washington though so it's probably a moot point.
