Here is a whataboutism - What about the part where Trump stated its a states right issue and he has zero intention on enforcing/passing a nation wide ban?
First, it is more than little difficult to trust Trump generally. But more broadly speaking, one absolutely cannot trust the Republican Party on abortion and whether they will pass a nationwide ban. If they were to do so, exactly nobody can count on Trump to veto it.
This is nothing more than an authoritarian liberal fantasy just as the far right have their authoritarian fantasies of liberals taking over the country. 1 - There is no real movement to nationally ban abortions 2 - Most states have a fair abortion policy 3 - It would have to pass the House. This is the ONLY plausible possibility 4 - Senate will not touch it with a ten foot pole (see point 2) 5 - Trump already said NTY 6 - SCOTUS already ruled it was a states right issue. SCOTUS is not a fringe far right group beholden to Trump like the Liberal Fantasy likes to believe. If you're going to fantasize about unrealistic outcomes, do it in a productive manner. Like ending wars, solving homeless issues, sustainable living wages, healthcare costs, ect ...
You're telling me if the GOP wins the house and Senate it wouldn't pass and Trump wouldn't sign it? Can I have some of your drugs? You've got some good ones.
well if the bill passes both houses and the president signs the bill . . . isn't that the way the system is supposed to work? what's your complaint? the odds of either house of Congress passing such a bill is ridiculous. @Space Ghost is more patient than I am in explaining why
Depends on who trump is talking and what votes he needs to get... President Trump is pushing for a 20-week abortion ban https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/tru...ZmNDoGxwOocHgGe0js05HG5yMqTh2VfwCKQw5oOCnJHJs
With all due respect this is written as if you have zero firsthand experience with actually base voters of the Republican Party or you are dishonestly just gaslighting. Justices on the Supreme Court have already openly stated in their opinions how they are prepared to rule on court decisions if there are cases taken up that thread the needle to allow for constitutional interpretation. A federal ban really doesn’t even have to go through Congress in the normal means of legislating. However SCOTUS lacks the enforcement mechanism which is why people on the left happen to be a tad bit concerned about this election. Concern for which people like you are hellbent on gaslighting in a way that downplays the issue enough to where maybe people won’t vote Dem because they have been told abortion isn’t going to get banned because of X,y,z reasons. I understand your agenda here sir, but I’ll ask you again respectfully to either learn a bit more about the United States of America, or stop being dishonest with your arguments and speak more direct & honest. Stop gaslighting people to try and play them for fools into thinking maybe abortion isn’t on the ballot.
My point was not about the likelihood of passage of nationwide abortion ban. I made the assertion that republicans cannot be trusted with the issue, and Trump can’t be trusted to block it. I stand by both points.
Shrugs shoulders - I am not sure why this one gets singled out as especially stupid compared to all of the bullshit I have heard from the actual Presidential candidates. It really isn't THAT far fetched. Trump only a few months ago said that he will not interfere in how the states decide to legislate abortion, and it is irrelevant if he likes it - it will be different in each state. Then again, a month prior to that Trump said he would support a national ban at 15 weeks. So what will Trump ultimately support? IDK Yeah he could - all he would have to do is sign it into existence. The issue of whether the SCOTUS would hear the case and overturn the ban is an entirely different matter, and I don't think anyone knows for sure how they would rule - there are at least 3-4 Justices that would almost certainly support the law. There are another 3 that would immediately vote against it. That leaves the other Justice's deciding. FWIW I don't think Trump gives a **** about abortions. He has paid women to have abortions, he supported abortion rights in the past.... and he is savvy enough to know that any type of federal ban would politically hurt him greatly, and he doesn't want that.
