Believe it or not I actually watched this stretch of play and the truth is while Sengun was fantastic, the reason the team was on fire to start the season was because Dillon Brooks and FVV were playing like Jordan and Pippen. Not sustainable… didn’t sustain. Sengun was good…. But the truth for those who actually watch Rockets games without an agenda is that the Rockets got some extremely favorable play early from their vets and hit some extremely tight end of game shots. It was a fun stretch. Not indicative of how the Rockets need to roster build the next 5 years.
Not disagreeing with you. But by the same logic, the Rockets' winning streak in March was due to Jalen's unsustainable extremely favorable play. Not indicative of how the Rockets would look like without Sengun.
Rudy: "I love him...I sort of call him Jokic Jr." SOHs: "Must trade him" Only one of those two contains a Rockets 5 time all star and two time Rockets NBA champion, and sorry to tell you, he actually loves Sengun, like many other established former and current NBA stars and superstars. Yet the other group claims to know what they are talking about.
Also, due to a very weak schedule, which I believe is a major factor in Green's performance over that stretch.
100% true. We should be able to look at the entire spectrum and view things objectively. Jalen’s spectacular run is not a holistic view on the risk/reward for building a team around him for the future or even the risk/reward of giving him a max extension. You have to look at the WHOLE objective truth. And the truth is the Rockets still do not yet have a contending team mostly because none of our young players have ascending into superstardom. Not that this means any of them are bad, or we cannot be excited about the great strides they have taken… however we occasionally need that gut check to remind ourselves how rare it is for even an insanely talented NBA player to ascend to the likes of a Lebron James or Hakeem Olajuwon… or even a Luka or Giannis or Tatum or Jokic. Don’t mean to be a wet blanket here but none of our guys… even Sengun… are superstars yet. Hell he didn’t even make the all star team and Jalen Green sure as sh$t wasn’t getting in. The Rockets have some awesome young talent but at this point… everyone is expendable if the owner and GM really mean what they say about trading for a true “superstar.”
Don't give up an SGA for a Paul George, though... Rockets FO has to be very careful here. These guys are still kindergartners. Alperen and JG are both very, very talented guys. Alperen has forgotten more moves than half our damn roster will ever know. I know that doesn't show up in the archetype conversation, but it matters.
you have a paint efficient scorer and playmaker @ 21 year old being compared to a 29 year old Jokic based and actual production / impact / advance stats based not just style, hype, highlights, or eye test he honed his paint scoring, assists, generating FTAs, and rebounding in his first 3 years to be at par with the top 3 centers I'll trust he can up his 3PT % average to around 33% plus work on his defense on his 4th year https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?CF=FG_PCT*GE*50:AST*GE*5&PlayerPosition=C&SeasonType=Regular Season&dir=D&sort=FG3_PCT
"Jalen Green only played well for that stretch because of a favorable schedule" Almost as if the Jaters dont realize there are game logs out there.
oh Jalens wildy inconsistent extremely volatile 3rd year game logs you love those 12 games of 0% 3PT% right
I actually like Scottie Barnes, unlike some of the other weird trades being thrown around. I wouldn't do it, but a young up and coming player with potential to be tapped still. That contract though...
Almost as much as we love the several games where Sengun put up 0pts on 0% from the field - yes he still actually attempted shots (which Green would NEVER do.)
For me, the ONLY way I even consider trading Sengun is for a PROVEN star that is the right age and doesn't have a injury history. Period.
Rockets will jump on Jgreen for Barnes but not TO Raptors will give ALpi for Barnes serious thought though
