Put Loperfido at 1B and platoon Cabbage/Chas, maybe even trade for another bat like J.D. Martinez. But they really need to add another leverage reliever. I would give up Baez and Blubaugh plus more for Mason Miller. That guys a stud.
Ryan for Ryan Pressly for Mountcastle. Don't see it happening, but Baltimore has a 1B prospect knocking on the door, so they can afford to deal their 1B depth. O'Hearn though they could definitely send our way for not much.
One shot one kill blockbuster: Astros get: 1B Vlad Guerrero Jr. SP Kevin Gausman RP Nate Pearson $6M (2024) $6M (2025) Blue Jays get: P Spencer Arrighetti 3B Zach Dezenzo OF Chas McCormick OF Luis Baez P Forrest Whitley Astros lineup would be insanely deep, and adding a star hitter at 1B probably allows them to slot in Dubon as the everyday 3B next season when Bregman leaves. Gausman gives them an experienced ToR P to add to their rotation. But this trade would give Houston massive payroll concerns for 2024 and 2025. They would very likely need to trade Pressly and Montero in salary dumps this offseason and maybe even one of Verlander/McCullers.
I wanna see how Vlade would do w Tuve Tucker Yordan Bregman Pena Loperfido Yanier ... Gausman 4.24 era 5W 6L Pearson 4.13 era is he middle reliever? The genius of Snake rises again. Thanks for sharing your ideas. This trade is something that appears to be favorable to me.
I think Pearson is underrated. His fb averages 98 and he gets strikeouts at a good clip. He’s a big homer prone but it’s something I think the Astros could improve on. He’s a 7th inning guy right now that if properly tweaked could be a closer imho.
I think Luis Severino makes a lot of sense He can help eat up innings as a starter to finish out the season, and then would be comfortable coming out of the bullpen in the playoffs. Cost should be fairly low.
Astros get: OF Luis Robert Jr. White Sox get: P Spencer Arrighetti OF Jacob Melton 3B Zach Dezenzo OF Luis Baez That is probably pretty fair value, and hurts Houston’s farm badly, but it still may not be enough, if Chicago wants to focus on quality over quantity (in which case Robert likely goes to Philly or LA). Here’s another: Astros get: 1B Ryan O’Hearn CF Cedric Mullins Orioles get: P Spencer Arrighetti OF Chas McCormick McCormick and Mullins represent fairly even value change of scenery candidates, Mullins being lefthanded makes him a better fit for Houston’s lineup. O’Hearn upgrades 1B. Orioles get Arrighetti to bolster their rotation. There’s very reasonable doubt Baltimore would want McCormick but Elias was part of the team that drafted him. But it’s unlikely 2 AL contenders would make a trade like that.
Mullins vs RHPs, wRC+ This season 94 Past 2 seasons 97 Past 3 seaons 110 Career 116 McCormick, wRC+ This season 90 Past 2 seasons 108 Past 3 seasons 100 Career 101 I'd give Mullins a slight nod vs RHPs over Chas going forward. I expect Chas will be a lot better vs LHPs going forward such that overall production easily favors Chas. Granted, I expect Chas and Mullins to be much more like their career numbers assuming they play the same amount. Considering the Astros have a great OF even with Chas stinking it up in April and May, I just don't see the point in downgrading significantly vs LHPs for a small bump vs RHP in the OF. If trading Chas, get a 1B (i.e., better than O'Hearn) or a pitcher. Adding an OF just doesn't help that much unless the player is one of the best in the game and gets most of his value at the plate (i.e., the Astros are getting a ton of value in CF defensively and any addition likely has their or Meyers's defensive value muted by the Crawford Boxes).
I pretty much agree with all that. The more I look at the Astros roster, the more I think the only thing they really need is a non-rental elite hitting 1B, preferably one who hits lefthanded. Lamont Wade would be my #1 target. I would also call the A’s about Tyler Soderstrom because you never know. Yandy Diaz, Vlad Jr., and Jeimer Candelario would also be on my list. If the Padres fall out then Arraez and Cronenworth would be in the mix.
I would not be that excited about Houston making that trade, I was just posting about what I thought it would take. Here’s an intra-division doozie: Astros get: 1B Tyler Soderstrom RP Lucas Erceg A’s get: OF Jacob Melton OF Joey Loperfido P Miguel Ullola P Forrest Whitley
Because I’m ****ing BORED, guy. I live my life in a droning haze of work and kids and Astros baseball. Why are you replying?!
Love it! Please don't take much of what I say too seriously. I do a poor job of differentiating between weird humor and half-ass-serious discussion. And I'm not your 'guy', buddy.
Snake snake hey. Ok ok. Yandy Diaz. Tbay. And someone else from them too. Whatcha think? Yandy just got a single drove in 2 v Sea and Rays take the lead. We catch and pass Sea in a week, baby!
