He's going to get eaten alive in L.A. He should have started his career in a small market like Charlotte where his mistakes would go largely unnoticed. Dude hasn't even coached a JV team and now he's going to coach at the highest level?? Please!
[Buha] The Lakers were high on Redick’s potential and viewed the 15-year NBA veteran as a Pat Riley-like coaching prospect, according to league sources. Redick checked many of the boxes for the Lakers as they searched for their next coach.
I think Redick will eventually be a good coach. He is smart and clearly knows how to discuss complex basketball situations. I also felt the same way about Steve Nash. The Lakers job will not give him a chance to succeed. Hitching his wagon to LeBron James is a huge mistake. You cannot compete for a title with a 40-year-old that makes max money. It is an impossibility. LeBron's entire history shows that he will throw his coach under the bus instead of taking any accountability and Redick has to hope that he hangs on longer than LeBron's body.
Perhaps JJ is way smarter than we are giving him credit for. Perhaps he knows things wont work out. Perhaps he knows he will only coach for 1 year, maybe 2, and get paid for 4. Perhaps he knows that getting some coaching experience will open future doors for him and that failing with the Lakers wont hurt his resume. JJ is a smart man.
