But you are talking about 100 at bats and then an injury. Damn give him a minute to work through that. Chas is a streaky hitter. He will absolutely get hot. The sporadic playing time won’t help him though.

He's played like it. He is overmatched at the plate way too often, just totally noncompetitive ABs I'd love for him to spend ~2 weeks in SL and get himself right. Loperfido and Dubon have pretty much relegated him to the end of the bench as it stands.
Right, he can work it out in SL and come back strong. I don't care about samples, just watching him at the plate is enough. He's massively expanding the zone, getting busted inside, and not driving balls middle-out to RCF like he did last year.
Dubon and Loperfido are playing much better, there's nowhere for him to play everyday. And the Stros do not have the luxury of letting guys work through multi-month issues. They've tried it and are done.
Based off the Mariners GM's quotes, they're definitely going big game chasing at the deadline. I have a feeling they'll gun for Vlad Jr. and another big name bat.
Dubon is only playing the outfield because Meyers was so bad. Now that Meyers has improved at the plate there is no reason to play Dubon out there at all. When Meyers couldn’t hit a beach ball, for several different long stretches, I didn’t hear you saying that he should be in SL. Chas’ defense in CF was good enough that you didn’t really need meyers back then. Chas should get the same amount of leash. He has done more for the club than Meyers to this point n their careers.
Chas and Abreu situations are completely different. Also, they gave Abreu like 700 at bats to work out of it. Once again, Chas has 133 at bats and an injury in the middle of it. Chas gets sporadic playing time now whereas Abreu was penciled in everyday. Different situations and scenarios including the big age difference.
San Diego chases big names and they always disappoint. Hoping the same happens to the Mariners. Despite the low rankings of our farm system, I have more faith and who's available internally than anyone out there. Just gotta get healthy. If JV, Garcia, McCullers, Tucker, Caratini, and France all come back 100%, we should be good.
Chas gained some weight during the hammy injury... and it's visibly noticeable. I like him at left over Dubon who is really a middle infielder but I don't want him at center until he's back at "game shape." Platooning with Loperfido might be best at the moment.
The problem is that Espada thinks he's smart enough to know when a guy's hot streak is going to begin or end, and no one is really that smart.
Seth Martinez hasn't pitched since the 15th. I wonder if they may try and use him as the starter of a bullpen game on Wednesday with a day off Thursday. Arrighetti will be available on regular rest, but he hasn't looked nearly as sharp the last 2 starts on regular rest, a few extra days off may do him some good.
Do you not read entire posts? The Abreu experiment dates back to the beginning of last season. Thats why I said he got like 700 at bats to work himself out of it. Abreu was awful in 4 of the 6 months last season. McCormick not getting that kinda leash at all. Yes I realize money is the reason but this is not apples to apples. Bad comparison.
I'm not biased for either Chas or Meyers (I just want what's best for the Astros' winning) -- but saying McCormick isn't "especially toolsy" while comparing him to another player who isn't either doesn't make sense. Tools: Hitting -- about equal Power -- about equal Speed -- about equal Defense -- advantage Meyers (but Chas is no slouch) Arm -- advantage Chas (Meyers is clearly below average currently and was average AT BEST *before* the injury) Either player *might* be better than the other -- it's just odd anyone would proclaim either guy *clearly* better than the other.

Oh I’m not saying Chas is better. I am saying he’s been better than Meyers every season. He also hit that home run off cole in the ALCS and made that great catch in the WS. Last year he had an .842 OPS and had stretches that were very impressive, doing stuff jake meyers has never done. All I am saying is start both. Looerfido can easily be the 4th outfielder in his age 25 rookie season.
