How insane is it that the last few pages of this thread have basically been "no you're a dummie" "yeah but you're a dumbass" "no but you're a dummie?" It's not ****ing Rocket (pun intended) science. The offense at times last season didn't play into the strengths of 3 of our core 6 youngsters at all. Anybody who sees that as a Sengun problem didn't pay attention, it was WAY more of a "FVV is a tiny slow ass PG so the 2 man game with Sengun turned into grandpa ball that made us super predictable and we just couldn't get other teams to move much out of position." The solution to our offensive issues does not require anybody to be traded, it's really very ****in simple tbh: Instead of playing a slow ass Sengun/FVV 2 man game all game long, we throw in some faster Sengun/Jalen, Sengun/Amen, Amen/Jalen, Sengun/Cam 2 man game sets, as well as getting our other guys involved earlier (which they already made that adjustment towards the end of the season before everybody ran out of steam with all the injuries.) All of a sudden we're no longer predictable and moving at a snail's pace, we've pushed the break more to leverage our literal league-beating athleticism (Sengun QB long bombs anyone?) and people are getting enough touches not to be pure ass when the ball pops out with 3 secs left on the clock after Fred's 50th dribble back and forth in the paint. All we need to do is shift tactics slightly to leverage the actual skillsets we have and we're ****ing GOLDEN. But y'all aint want that, you only want 1 potential star because any more than that means your guy won't get his shine. Mental.
Sengun not being a great 3 point shooter would not ****ing matter if our pathetic wing players could shoot the ball like they’re supposed to. It’s not enough that Sengun is already our best player and offensive hub, HE also has to be the one to improve his 3 while everyone else does what? Brick?
I’ve never been one of the guys that wanted to get rid of Jalen. I want all our young guns to be successful. I do think there’s a hierarchy that’s played out, but honestly it doesn’t matter. The team should be able to play together and to their strengths like you’re saying.
At least with Amen he will probably end up being our best defensive player. With Jalen specifically, he really needs to get his 3P% up to be able to play alongside Sengun, not the other way around. Although I do think Sengun will learn how to shoot. He's already well on his way.
I mean I think there's a hierarchy too tbh, I just think once the consistency comes in that the player who's ACTUALLY put in monster games will sit at the top of it like they ALWAYS do in the NBA. That doesn't mean I want the guy who sat at the top this last season gone, I want them both here wiping the smile off Wemby's face for at least the next decade. Sengun's always had chemistry with Jalen, he plays great with athletic wings who throw down monster athletic dunks. We just need Grandpa Fred to move a little bit faster than the average grandma with a walker and diversify our strategies a bit and I think we're already on track tbh.
Playera are more VERSATILE now. When you have players in the 6'4 - 6-8 range you can mix and match, which is a lot of what Indy did. So, technically even though Haliburton is a PG, you can use him as a wing when switching on defense.
I actually wouldn’t mind Sarr, I prefer Sheppard and his shooting. Drafting Sarr would be more of an indictment on Jabari unless he can play some 3. Which I think he can
Trade the by far best player on the team and replace him with an unproven player who could very well be a bust. Yea that makes a ton of sense. None of our core players should be traded unless Jalen starts out playing like **** for an extended period yet again.
If we can trade Jalen, Sengun and future picks for Mitchell (with an extension in place) Draft Clingan (and he pans out as an elite defensive big) We’d very likely have home court playoff team in place for 4 years minimum, that’s without major improvement from any of the other young guys (Smith/Thompson/Whitmore) that could put us over the top. We’d also have the ability to improve through FA still with FVV + Jeff/Tate/Landale expiring, probably just have to find a way to dump Dillons salary. If a star wants to sign here.
And I agree 100% but do you trade EVERY wing player or Sengun? Its a matter of what fits. I go back to the 11 game winning streak, EVERYBODY was touching the ball, the ball was moving, the players were moving, its because the court was spread. In addition, I like to think if there was a center available who could roll, maybe the Rockets could have made the Play In. However, like I said earlier, its not about Sengun personally, its about fit.
