    35. Dalton Knecht | Tennessee | SF
    Top 100: No. 7
    Stats: No. 76
    Consensus: 0.9 WARP

In addition to the top 30, it's worth digging into this year's most notable projection: Knecht, a sure top-10 pick, rated below replacement level based on his stats. One of the factors that makes my projections unique is weighing earlier seasons more heavily because of the importance of excelling at a young age. Knecht didn't emerge as an above-average college player until his second season at Northern Colorado, after two in junior college, and wasn't considered a first-round NBA prospect until averaging 21.7 PPG last season at Tennessee.

Beyond that, Knecht's low rates of assists, steals and blocks hurt his projection. His combined rate of those three nonscoring contributions is lowest for any player ranked in ESPN's top 30. Of the 10 players in my database whose statistical profile were most similar to Knecht's, just two (Joe Harris and Danuel House Jr.) played 1,000 minutes in the NBA.

There have been five players age 22 or older drafted in the top 10 in the past decade: Kris Dunn, Buddy Hield, Frank Kaminsky, Davion Mitchell and Obi Toppin. Of those picks, only Hield has become a capable starter, and the numbers don't suggest Knecht is likely to change that trend.

He’s worth a flyer at 14 or below, but he shouldn’t be top 10 in my opinion and I watched a lot of Vol basketball this year.

Unsurprisingly, I agree with the stats guys that think his game won't translate, I wouldn't consider him in the top 10 at all.

Kneckt is who the doubters think Sheppard is, white guy that can shoot and nothing else, the older age also means zero upside.

I’m curious how udoka views a guy like grant williams. I could see a 3 for 5 swap with charlotte including a dump of landale for a future pick with Williams.

I think Grant Williams on that contract might not be a positive asset. Maybe a neutral asset. Not sure how Mark Williams is viewed,

I'm intrigued by trading down for McCain.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/...d-at-no-3-but-traded-by-rockets-to-grizzlies/

    1. Hawks: Risacher — Risacher and Clingan look like the options right now, although a trade is still a possibility.
    2. Wizards: Sarr

    3. Grizzlies: Clingan — Here's where it gets fun. I'm now projecting Clingan to be a top three pick, but never actually play for the Rockets, where they already have Alperen Sengun. Look for Memphis and to a lesser extent, Chicago, to both be possibilities here. If Houston keeps the pick, Sheppard is the most likely candidate.

    4. Spurs: Sheppard — Risacher, Sheppard and Castle are the players that San Antonio is believed to be most interested in if it stays at No. 4. If the Spurs have to pick between Sheppard and Castle, shooting could very well be the variable that pushes this decision in Sheppard's favor.

    5. Pistons: Buzelis
    6. Hornets: Castle — If Memphis or Chicago can't make a deal with Houston, it'll move on to Charlotte, if Clingan is still on the board. If not, Castle makes a lot of sense providing a defensive standout between LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

    7. Blazers: Williams
    8. Spurs: Knecht
    9. Rockets: Tidjane Salaun — There's a chance the Spurs take him at No. 8. If not, and if Houston ends up with this pick, he could give them just the type of physical specimen up front that they don't yet have among their young assets.

    10. Jazz: Carter

Wow, that would be so bad both in the short term and the long term for the Rockets. It's the kind of dumb move that we'd be talking about for decades.

if we trade with the Grizz for anything less than an Ainge-like haul I’m gonna freak out. Don’t make a WC rival better please.

If Risacher is really who the Spurs want and falls to us, would they be willing to swap their picks with us for the 3rd?
Probably not but worth a phone call.....
I want Clingan......but would take Reed if we have another player to come with him........
Otherwise I take Clingan/ Sarr or Risacher.......

In that deal they made 2 WC rivals better while not helping the Rockets. It's close to the worst thing that could happen

The Hawks can't decide between Clingan and Risacher. So...trade with us. We'll pick Sarr, and you're still guaranteed to land one of Clingan or Risacher. Win-win.

It's all speculation. The Rockets aren't happy with the offers they're getting for the 3rd pick.
They want a valuable player plus a good pick.

Somehow, this writer came up with a mock draft that succeeds in making no Rockets fan happy.

Of course, things can change depending on what else Houston gets back with these trades.
