Do not like. Call up a guy straight from AA to pitch against one of the best lineups in the league. Hope they know what they’re doing.
My guess is yes. The next Roy O ( but I'm predicting 4 innings and 3 runs Friday) tough team to put him against. Better things will be coming though.
He’s a 22 year old former college pitcher. 3rd round pick last year too… sometimes you can promote the ones that have the stuff as there’s a finite amount of pitches his arm will be “elite”. Also, with a team that probably has all the advanced scouting capabilities like the Orioles should have… maybe them not having a book on a guy is a good thing? Going to need to rely on his catcher to help guide him through it… whoever it may be tomorrow.
Brown sometimes is deceptive… but recently he has been pretty straight forward. He basically said he pushed the Abreu release to happen. He said the Astros will make moves if it’s smart. He said the lead has to be cut to 5 by the end of July. I am not happy he went to bat to hire Espada, but I understand why he did. His drafting has looked very good… he has done his job.
Loperfido being called back up to the active roster. Either Caratini hitting the IL or Singleton being DFA’d if I had to guess.
Or they just send Hummel back down. He was only here in the first place because Loperfido couldn't be called back up.
I agree. I’m about done with the Singleton experience, I guess. If they were to give Yanier some run at 1st base- Hummel provides some nice versatility with his ability to catch. Nevertheless, for the Astros to make some kind of run they need WAY more production from the 1st base position.
I don't think Singleton is long for the team, Abreu gave him his chance and the results aren't there. We're approaching 300 PA since he got back in the league and his actual hitting numbers are grotesque. Can draw a walk with the best of them, but just can't hit MLB pitching. Dubon and Loperfido seems like a clear upgrade, or at worst lateral move. Having said that, don't think we should dump him over Hummel.
Singleton can hit big league pitching, he just hits it on the ground. His 26% k rate is fine for a guy with his ability to draw walks and for a guy with his power. But that power is just getting wasted on ground balls. You can’t be a big lug at 1B and k 26% of the time while posting the same ISO as Mauricio Dubon. I have been one of the biggest Singleton proponents around, but I agree he had his shot and didn’t produce. I’d rather give Dubon every day run at 1B or throw Loperfido or Hummel or Cabbage out there.
