I mean, they are two different type of players. If you've watched Marcus Smart play you'd know he and FVV don't have overlapping roles.
Well they have overlapping positions as a small guard. FVV is a decent defender. A smart defender. He doesn't have the physical gifts like Smart's strength but his defense is good enough. FVV contribution in being a certain leader and floor general on offense significantly out weight Smart's strengths. Where would Smart get playing time outside being a 20 minute bench player? Would he accept that role? The dude doesn't move the needle with any of the team's needs. I see no point in trying to go after him. This is a Ime thing. I trust Ime on a lot of things but here I disagree.
If you signed EG, traded for Smart the perimeter defense would be much improved. However the Rockets 2 biggest weaknesses wouldn't be addressed. Shooting and interior defense
Ingram is in the Bridges category as one of those guys who's really solid and probably a solid No. 3 on a contender, but you're going to have to overpay him to keep him and the assets to move him won't make it worth it. He's definitely not worth Sengun, who you could easily argue (and I would) is already a better player right now. And he's not a great defender, so aside from getting another solid bucket getter, I'm not sure how much better he really makes this team. A package around Brooks, Jalen and maybe a pick or two (depending on what they are) would be enticing enough for me to at least consider it. But I wouldn't move Sengun, Amen or Cam, and I'd be very hesitate to offer Bari or Tari.
I just don't see perimeter defense as being a weakness at all right now either, though. EG maybe makes sense because he can shoot and still play D at a pretty high level, but where does he get minutes? Holiday's minutes maybe? And then drafting Sheppard makes a lot less sense unless they stash him in the G League for a year. But I'm fully out on Smart. It's not that I don't think he can be a quality player, and we've seen him play winning basketball before. It's just that there's too many guys on this roster today who can't shoot. Adding another one at a key position where they could desperately use a shooter would be a huge miss from Ime and Stone, IMO.
I think you're misunderstanding me when I say to bring him in as a teacher. Cause you're clearly talking about things that have nothing to do with what Smart can bring in a teaching role.
If it was Brooks + Tate + Landale + future FRP for Zion, I would strongly consider that... but his injury history + lack of outside shooting is SCARY Same offer for BI
Iko has become the mouthpiece for the Houston Rockets. Everything that Iko says has a purpose. He gets information - but only the information the front office wants to release and it is conveyed in the way that the Rockets want it to be conveyed.
FVV is a better playmaker, shooter than Smart. I think he's lowkey not that far behind defensively either.
I detest Flopus Snart NOOOOO!!!!!! I like BI but not for Sengun Honestly he is kind of what I would want Jabari to become Rocket River
It isn't a coincidence that Boston won the title After Marcus Smart was traded. Marcus Smart is a really bad offensive player. I know that Udoka wants a point of attack guard that can shut down point guards - and he probably figures Smart and Amen can shut down backcourts, but the other side of the court will be really ugly.
