At the stage of his career if he wants meaningful minutes on a playoff level team, he'd have to consider being a bench guy.
Let's pass on the chance to draft better Marcus Smart for....Marcus Smart. Guess between Marcus and Dillon, Ime and Stone want to have 48 minutes of maddening over zealous defenders that constantly bite off more than they can chew.
B.I. is 26 years old. I would take him over Mikal. Not sure I would do Sengun but Stone should absolutely make an offer.
Smart shot 31% last year on almost 7 3pt attempts per game. He’s a career 32% 3pt shooter. Dude has a 4:3 assist to turnover ratio, which is straight up bad. But I guess Ime wants his guys? Wtf? I hope the Smart talk is a smokescreen to scare other teams into competing with Memphis to move up to #3.
I thought Smart would make no sense until I remembered Udoka coached him in Boston. I think there's value in getting him in a teaching capacity for our youngsters, but there's risk that he wants to be more in his walk year looking for another big contract.
I will never how many here would say yes to trading Jalen for BI? I would say no obviously but I'd assume many here would be like "hell ya!"
We have enough teachers. FVV is a better version of that type of guy anyways. Smart doesn't make sense with this current roster construction. We struggle with shooting. Our defense is already near the top of the league. Smart doesn't move the needle in any of the things this team needs. This is also why I don't understand why people want Clingan. We are already a good defensive team. This team needs floor spacing.
How does this make sense for either team--tons of overlap between what Sengun and Zion do well and poorly, and Ingram is not good enough (or consistently healthy enough) to be a #1 option.
No to Marcus Smart, the Celtics got better by getting rid of him - can't have a reunion of Ime players like we did under Van Gundy - move forward. DD
I mean Smart has been one of the best if not the best perimeter defender for most of his career. I don't know how anyone can objectively say FVV is a better version of that.
B.I and #17 for Sengun? Draft Clingan or Sarr. Pickup EG in FA Adams/Clingan or Sarr Jabari/Tari B.I/Brooks Green/Cam/EG FVV/Thompson
I'm referring to "veteran leader". The marginal improvement in defense between Smart and FVV is overshadowed by FVV ability to "be the coach on the floor" and being a floor general leader for a young squad. FVV also is a great role model for Jalen, Cam and Amen specifically. High talent guards/wings get to see how a undrafted 6'0" midget turned into a all-star with a ring by examining how he trained be and how much discipline it takes to do something like that. If t were up to me I'd have Jalen, Amen and Cam live in FVV's basement and just follow him around during the off season and mimick his training schedule.
