I'm not a big history buff of the 70s to know when the public shift in vietnam shifted into our war and away from a post-colonial French squabble, but here it seems the transition is when Ukraine started seeing losses, Blinken’s public declaration of future NATO admittance for Ukraine and lately the individual 10 year defense pacts With Ukraine by us and other Euro allies. I guess Trump’s polling advantage is letting that poor gaslit cat out of the bag sooner than the narrative wanted to shift. Trump accellerated urgency as Putin is clearly gunning for a war of attrition while public opinion in democratic western states DO NOT want to fight or spook Russia. I think it would’ve been better for us to negotiate a quicker peace where Ukraine won many concessions to face China head on, but it seems now that our Euro allies want to address Putin at their doorsteps first as a condition for supporting the US on China. Fair enough for border states like Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and Lithuania. This does create vibes for a Franz Ferdinand moment, but I don’t think Iran or China wants total war just to prove to their people that they’re taking the Great Satan head on.
