Reed Sheppard is intimidated by Houston. He prefers small town San Antonio. Not so many bright lights.

The Vipers would be set at center if we waste the pick on Clingan.

if we are gonna draft Clingan I'd rather trade down with Portland or whoever wanta Clingan and get Edey.

I think thy should stay put and draft Sheppard(if available) but if they want a center, Edey is the way to go. Either one will be on the Vipers likely due to center being our strongest and deepest position this year but Edey will be a much better pro than Clingan.

I am hoping this Clingan stuff is just in case Sheppard is gone at #3. And if he is I hope they trade down and get some future assets for another team dumb enough to want Clingan.

I had just looked up Jalen’s stats yesterday, so was surprised to see this.

I think what you’re showing here is pre-March this year … thus only 57 games.

Green shot 41% for his career, outside of that inexplicably horrendous beginning to his Ime era.

    Jalen Green Wide Open 3s
    ————————————-
44.9% for the games you didn’t show this year (31-69)
    39.2% for 2023 (69-176)
    41.2% for 2022 (77-187)

And this is why we want Reed Sheppard. To get guys more easy looks, and let Reed shoot the tough ones.

    Why is Jalen's GP 57?

See my post above yours. I think he filtered out games from March on.

If Jalen starts out playing like **** yet again then that 57 game stat is what we can expect from him a majority of the time. Having a few streaks here and there that boost percentages ≠ what we can expect from him most of the time. I for one am hoping he finally puts the inconsistency to rest this year but so far in his career that 57 game stat is what you can expect from him most of the time. He went back to the 57 game percentages when his streak was over after 10 or so games. So far he has boosted his overall percentages every year with streaks after the ASB.

Naw, for his Wide Open 3s, that 57 games is more an outlier, than normal.

For his remaining 200 games, he shot 41%

I’m pointing this out not to defend Jalen against that horrible 57 games of 27% for Wide Open 3s.

I’m pointing it out to suggest what Reed can do for us … ie, stop Jalen from jacking up the tough 3s so much. And get him settled into the mindset of mainly looking for just open 3s. (Ie, improve your shot-making selection

And that goes for the whole team, when Reed is on the floor. Use his gravity to get better looks.

I didn't dig into Jalen's stats too deeply. My main point was his stats always get a boost from post ASB streaks in all 3 seasons. If he could harness that streak energy all season he would be all NBA.

Also, fwiw, I’ve always thought those nearest-defender stats are flawed, wrt step-backs.

I believe nearly every step-back 3 should be considered “very tight”. Yet, the stats say Jalen only shot 5 very tight 3s this year (and just 12 for his whole career).

If nothing else, step-backs are as tough as any 3, and that’s the point of nearest-defender stats.

It would be pretty funny if these are recorded as "open threes".

He cant because he has to defer to Alperen and Jabari most of the season. It's hard to be great when there is not enough basketball to go around. That's why he exploded last season after Alpi went out.

We won big in the lottery do not trade this pick!

He was going into his post ASB streak mode prior to Alpi going down. He played like pure **** before that and it had zero to do with deferring to anyone. They tried very hard to force the ball to him at the start of games to get him jump started for most of the season.

I mean, nba.com says Luka Doncic didn’t shoot any “very tight” 3s this year.

that “nearest defender” stat is seriously flawed, if it’s telling me Luka never shot a very tight 3!!!

What’s the point? And this is especially important for evaluating Team Defense.

Basically, the official nba stats do not recognize when Team Defense forces a very tight 3.
