I do agree media in general needs to stop telling people they are trash, and what they should watch, and just trick them into watching. I'm serious. The People who complain the loudest are the ones who don't even understand what they are watching unless they are given a clue. People still think Dune is not woke.
Just one final thought and I'll stop ruining the thread for you guys. And just to reiterate, yes the show is bad. As a comparison, consider 1960's James Bond (Goldfinger, From Russia With Love) vs 80s James Bond (Octopussy, A View To A Kill). They are 9 movies and God knows how many TV shows in. The "original vision" long ago expired. This is an IP that is oversaturated and aimless. The smartest move George Lucas made was to stop the first time around at 3 movies and let the fans stew for 15 years. It's impossibe to keep pumping out content to the standard of the original trilogy. It would be like an NBA team drafting a hall-of-famer every draft for like.20 drafts in a row. The anticipation of untold stories was 1000× stronger than the actual telling of any stories. They should do the same again, but it will never happen given what Disney paid, and who they are.
How are the action/fight scenes? Only thing I’m somewhat interested in. Getting tired of all these Star Wars man.
I still wonder how it would have been received if the original movie had been released under the title Lucas initially wanted, “Star War (Good God Y’all): What Is It Good For?”
i forgot what the first dune was about. it was boring af frfr. haven't seen the second either. but how is it woke?
I think this might be reasonable except there is an established Universe and Lore that writers have been making good stories in (either with the original characters or not) for 40 years. There are dozens of good books, dozens of good comic and video game stories within the Universe because the writers cared about the established Universe and then added something to it that was entertaining in the extended universe. Disney could have done the last same thing infinitely.
DUNE is basically a middle east and oil allegory also the dangers of the white savior. people who hate "wokeness" seem to love dune. thy got tricked. another example - The Boys. The Boys was the most liberal stuff out there, but people were tricked because Homelander was such a good villain. they couldn't see the clues until season 4 and after the showrunner told Homelander fans they were being made fun of not celebrated
The counterpoint more believable with the way these media companies are handling their franchises. An optimist could say there's a lot of rich lore or material out there like what filoni tried to do with Ahsoka, but if they're planning ten projects on the pipeline, you'll be lucky and grateful for two or three of them and those aren't realistically guaranteed to be good. The odds are screwy, and they've become screwier with the streaming format and its formula for what defines a show as a success.
