Theres also very few franchises in any sport in the modern day era that have had the type of run the Astros have had since 2015. All runs do eventually end... and honestly, the Astros still have a prime core of Yordan/Altuve/Pena/Diaz/Garcia/Spencer/Hunter/B. Abreu/Hader... with another year of Tucker/Framber. Hard to say they'll truly need to tear it all down just yet.

they finally did it. they finally got rid of jabreu.

now the question will be, how did that discussion go? was it a heated discussion between bagwell, crane, dana brown, reggie jackson and biggio?

earlier this morning, they were talking about a timetable about this whole thing then BOOM. DFA mfer!

I could be wrong but I wonder if the DFA today was timed as such because they have a deal in place, I just don’t see anyone else in the minors or on the roster they feel good about at 1st if they want to get to the PS…..

He hit really well in AAA. Honestly there are like 6-7 guys on the Sugar Land roster who have played well enough to warrant a callup into a bench role. This is mostly surprising because he passed thru waivers once and so I wouldn’t think they’d call him up unless they expect him to stick on the big league roster for awhile, as he hit well enough in AAA to increase his odds of getting claimed if they try to pass him thru again.

Hummel plays the positions the Astros need from a versatile bench bat. Relegating Dubon to a bench infielder role for which he is better suited. I like this move a lot. The eventual full time first baseman may be in the organization somewhere but Hummel will do fine til that gets decided. It is a good day for the Astros.

Abreu will probably be great now. That's just how it goes. Change of scenery. Albeit, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up retiring the way he's been playing.

It’ll be interesting to see if Singleton gets another crack as the everyday 1B. “Abreu Insurance” had to be at least part of the reason Houston kept a 1B-only player on their bench. You have to think Singleton’s ice is getting thin. I would expect him to get another 50-125 pa to see if he can sustain above average production with regular playing time, then cut him loose at the trade deadline.

I really like Singleton and he has some exciting traits as a hitter (elite power, high walk rate) but if he can’t adjust his median launch angle to get more line drives and fewer grounders then he is just a very average hitter best suited as a AAAA player stashed on somebody’s AAA roster for the next 2-3 years until he retires.

This make me think Diaz is the new RH option at 1B.
