Look, lord knows I don't like short players, but Reed is taller than Scoot....... But shooting MATTERS more than height, and his 42" vertical allows him to get up and play. So I am not bothered by him at the Points Guard spot at all. He is 6'3" in shoes....that isn't tall but it isn't super short either.....he is no Clemons. Backup to FVV... And Him.....draft Shepherd AND go get those guys in free agency, we can do both !!! DD
If they trade up for Risacher then he was obviously the top player on their board. Same goes for Sheppard. I have seen in multiple places that they may trade up for Risacher Since he happens to be French hence my comment on them trading up to make their superstar happy. You are reading WAY too much into that comment. https://www.si.com/nba/draft/newsfe...rs-jump-to-no-1-in-swap-in-hawks-01j09076p7kx
If they view all things equally and one of the guys that is close to the top is French, then OF COURSE they will draft him to make their SUPER STAR player happy. Pop isn't stupid, he knows that their entire fate rests on the development of Wemby, so you draft players to support him on the court and off. DD
Now that I'd be totally fine with. Dillingham is a guy that is a true SG in a PG body. He projects to eventually be a very good 3 point shooter... but I expect him to struggle a bit early on while adjusting to the NBA 3 point line. He shot only 35% on NBA 3's last season... which is still alright, but given that he's expected to be a massive defensive liability and he lacks the PG skills to make up for it so IMO he'll be a pretty big net negative early in his career. Long term, who knows, but in the short term, I'm all for the Spurs getting Dillingham.
This is where I’m at too. I’m a fan of Reeds offense especially his deep shooting and shooting off pick & roll. Not fan of his size & defense (until I see it translated to the NBA). He’s a PG in the NBA and that’s fine. I like a few other prospects too. But so many of these players can’t shoot & we don’t need another one.
2 things. 1. Not all actual NBA scouts are created equal. 2. You aren't really reading any actual NBA scouting reports..... just randoms writing for draft blogs.
It is easier to teach gifted offensive players to play good defense than it is to teach good defenders good offense. START with the offense - that is the most important skill you can have.. dD
If he shows he is capable in practice he will get playing time. He will get more in future years. It would be different if we were in the same situation as 2021 and 2022 where we were one of the worst teams in the league. We were a .500 team. We got lucky in the lottery and won a high pick with another teams pick we owned so the playing time for rookies on better teams will be solely dictated by how they perform in practice.
Reed Sheppard may be forced to put the ball on the floor every time he touches the ball.........is this a strength and will it translate in the NBA at 6 foot 2?.......are we really sure he is Curry capable?.........very risky 3rd pick choice IMO..........
Lol ... I believe the cream ALWAYS rises to the top no matter the surroundings....UNLESS you play for Smiley Face Silas! Starter-non-Starter?? Who gives a crap!! The better players usually close out games and play more minutes!! UNLESS... It's science... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
All of the picks this year are risky. Besides, Dude a has a nice pull up from mid range and he can pass. I could see him making a living in pick & Roll once he develops and learns the NBA pace.
With Wemby in our division and Segun's lack of defense, I feel a center could help now and in the future.......but I like the idea of a shooter but would have liked to have seen another season for Sheppard in college ball to get a better gauge.....We know what Clingan's going to bring and if he develops a 3 ptr that would really help........he's going to be more wide open than Sheppard IMO........
What scenario is there that would lead to Sheppard being forced to put the ball on the floor every time he touches the ball? I'm not sure that scenario even exists. That said, assuming it's true, he's an extremely high BBIQ player that is a plus passer and he's also really good at driving towards the basket then throwing on the brakes to hit a mid range shot similar to CP3. So pretty much no matter the scenario, shouldn't be a problem.
I agree, I think we should go with the big man, we need to develop a 7 footer to match up with Chet and Wemby. We could later trade for a proven shooter with more size than Reed. If reed was a taller player it would be a no brainer, but he’s an undersized shooting guard in a point guard’s body. If he works on his pg skills he could be a Kirk Hinrich type player, Hinrich was a natural pg with good defense, shooting and playmaking tho so I’m not sure he will be that type of player. It also bothers me that Reed didn’t start at Kentucky, if you watched college basketball you know it’s because of his size and his on ball defense was not good. He has active hands on defense that’s why people think he’s a good defender.
Why? Any player we take in this draft is a risk, we have no room at the INN TBH, this is found money. We need shooting, he can shoot - and FVV is over 30 and he is shorter than Reed Sheppard....(For you HP)... DD
Sengun already bullied Wemby last season Clingan would literally be consigned to around 15 minutes per game for the foreseeable future if we drafted him--is that worth the #3 pick? Now, drafting him as part of a trade back or out might be okay depending on the return.
