It is playing time and Wemby If they want to trade two lottery picks for Sheppard then they can have him although I think they actually want one of the French guys for Wemby.
This year I would say yes. I think most players are going to now prefer S.A. over HTown for that one reason.
What a luxury it would be to start your NBA career behind a championship PG who is a near perfect archetype for you. Maybe playing with Wemby is still preferable, but the Rockets are a damn good spot for him too.
Agreed, he won't be sad if he's drafted here... but being an immediate starter next to a superstar like Wemby is really attractive too
Spurs aren't doing that and Houston is a much better fit for Reed. He can just play his game while Sengun/Amen/Cam attract all of the attention. There'd be much more pressure to perform in San Antonio. And if you don't you're going to draw the ire of the Wemby zealots.
I don't think the data's flawed, but there's a reason why I was asking for comparisons to current successful NBA players. The Combine keeps track of all prospects, but we all know most prospects fail. Especially fail with the caveat of what you'd expect from a successful lottery pick (this year's lottery is suppose to be bad so I'm dropping the standards from a #3 pick vs. a regular lottery pick). On the flip side, being below average in these drills would rather be a red flag unless the drill itself is fairly meaningless to NBA production.
I can see Mark Price comparison. My only thing is how effective will Mark Price be in today's game? Same thing we are seeing with Kyrie in this series. Smaller guards can only bring so much. Every league is a Copycat; NBA, NFL, and MBL. Whoever wins the championship, others will copy. Just like others copied the Rockets and GS during the Small Ball era. And like I said before, Boston has size on the wings and the interior. Teams are going to copy that.
They wouldn’t need to trade both the 4 and 8. It would be 4 and something else. So Sheppard is not the best player in this draft, or is Popovich just stupid?
Look, I'll be the first to profess I don't know how to measure these things, hence why I just use opinions of people who have background in reading such things. So if Hollinger is saying he's iffy but you are certain he is above average, may I ask why you are so certain? Like, do you keep track of all the starting NBA guards and their lateral movement and see that Sheppard is clearly better than majority of them? What makes Sheppard equal or better than your typical NBA guard in this aspect that Hollinger's missing here?
The way Hollinger wrote his writeup it's fairly clear he's making his opinion based not on combine data and just watching his tape. So whatever fault Hollinger may have in his assessments, I'm pretty sure it's not because he reads too much into combine drills.
Pressure? Do you think Reed would consider pressure to perform a concern. Isn’t this just another example of cfnet reasoning around Reed reaching. “Hey Reed, we really are a better fit!”
Very good questions! I think those are reasonable questions. I presented similar questions that were made on NBADRAFT.NET about Reed and no one has answered. Like, why was he so inconsistent? And same as you, how is he going to guard NBA Players in the NBA with questionable lateral footspeed? However, every draft pick will have questions and thats why Rafael gets paid the big bucks to make the right pick.
THANK YOU! I agree with EVERYTHING you said about Scoot Henderson, that's why I don't want the Rockets to take Reed Sheppard! Think about it! Scoot graded out much higher than Reed Sheppard last yr in a better draft class.....A CAN'T MISS, GENERATIONAL TYPE PG. And some of the same people who were on the SCOOT HENDERSON TRAIN last yr, are on the REED SHEPPARD TRAIN this yr.......so, why go down that road?? I didn't want Scoot last yr and I don't want Reed this yr.
I think they want Risacher. I think it could very well be a move to make their superstar happy having another French speaking player on the team who also happens to be a high ranking draft pick. It could very well be Sheppard that they want who I think is the best player as well as some front offices around the league. Maybe the Spurs are one of those front offices? I guess time will tell if they trade up.
The thing is, they are opposites. Henderson was hyped due to athleticism... who shot 30% from 3 in the G League. The same type of people who hyped Jalen Green, the type of people who put flashy athleticism above all, were the people hyping Henderson.... and they were wrong about another prospect for the exact same reason. Reed Sheppard is the exact opposite, the flashy athleticism above all crowd hate him because he can actually play basketball rather than just being a slam dunk contest wanna be. Give me the generational shooting prospect who projects to be a plus defender and a plus floor general type over the generational athlete who can't play basketball.
