The one that still cracks me up is "I Love Rock N Roll". Most people would say it was Joan Jett, but it was originally by the Arrows. Joan Jett's version is better, IMO. I still love to crank it up on road trips. What cracks me up about it is that if you look on YouTube, nearly any cover of it fails to mention it originally being by The Arrows - they always say Joan Jett. Then there are those weirdos that think Britney Spears or somebody sang it first.

I hated Cyndi Lauper's version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun as a kid because it was so overplayed, but I never knew it wasn't the original until a few years ago. The original was by Robert Hazard and only came out a few months earlier from what I recall. Cyndi's is way better.

Another one I learned late in life was a remake (or at least part of it). Salt 'N Peppa's/En Vogue's "Whatta Man" was a sample of the song "What A Man" originally sung by Linda Lyndell. Lyndell got death threats from the KKK back in the day for associating with black people. I think she quit recording at that time or for a while, anyway. What a voice.

Kris Kristofferson was the songwriter and Ray Stevens had the initial version, but I think that Johnny Cash had the most success with it. Considering the struggles that Cash had in his personal life, the song does sort of fit him.

Here are Cash and Kristofferson doing it together.

YouTube kind of stalked me ...

They recommended this video and I was like "wth?", but since I like listening to music from other cultures, I decided to watch/listen. I had to stop at 0:44 when I realized what I was listening to and started laughing. Don't know if the lyrics are the same once translated, but ...

Youtube also suggests to me music from across the world.

They seem to play well enough, but I don't understand the lyrics

The guitarist is just showing off.

The music sounds much the same as what US - British - Canadian Rockers would play. No idea on the lyrics.

Joan Jett has never had a hit that wasn't a cover.
