Trump says remaining Bitcoin must be made in US Former President Trump on Wednesday pushed for all remaining Bitcoin to be mined in the United States, marking his latest shift in support for the crypto industry. “We want all the remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA!!! It will help us be ENERGY DOMINANT!!!” Trump wrote Wednesday on Truth Social. The former president argued domestic Bitcoin, which is acquired through an energy-intensive computational process called mining, could be the “last line of defense” against a CBDC, or central bank digital currency. The world’s largest CBDC pilot is currently being led by China. Other countries are also planning domestic digital currencies, however the U.S. House last month passed a bill barring the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC unless it has explicit authorization from Congress. Trump’s Truth Social post also went after President Biden, claiming his “hatred of Bitcoin only helps China, Russia and the Radical Communist Left.” The Biden administration has been cautious in its approach to cryptocurrency, during a period in which the sector has largely been defined by high-profile scandals that have hurt investors. Biden signed an executive order in 2022 calling for government agencies to evaluate the risks and benefits of cryptocurrencies as it pertains to consumer protection, financial stability and illicit activity. Trump’s post came a day after he met with leaders of several Bitcoin mining companies at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. His latest court of support from the cryptocurrency industry comes after years of his own skepticism over digital currencies Trump, in 2019, said he was “not a fan of Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air. Of course there is context. There is an entire history of Donald Trump, and how he thinks about his supporters/customers. He is at his heart a snake oil salesman, and a con artist. He doesn't even really try to dispute that. He sees himself as a showman, and a salesperson of the illusion of the Trump brand. They represent a dollar to be made, as does everything with him. So in that moment what was he really saying or what did he mean... well IMO it was a joke, but it's well know that half of what people say when they are joking is actually true. Of course Trump doesn't REALLY care about them, but he's always been kind of honest about his relationship with his customers/supporters/cult members/marks. He's selling you an ILLUSION. A Fantasy. The illusion that a Trump Steak that is really just a Choice chuck roast is actually Prime Wagyu tenderloin imported overnight from Japan. Since most people who buy into the Trump illusion normally are used to cooking & eating Chuck Roast from a crockpot, they are more than happy to buy into the illusion that Chuck Roast from a golden crockpot is Prime Wagyu Filet.
Yep. That will never change. He's sold more snake oil than anyone. Nobody sells more snake oil than Trump. His supporters are drowning in it. As for the con part, Trump even sells that image to them. He knows there is a lot of money to be made off those schmucks. He brags about his con picture on T-shirts, saying it's more famous than Elvis and Frank Sinatra. It's pathetic how much he loves himself. He plasters his name and face on everything to make a buck off those sad people who waste their money on that crap.
Technically true, but I don't like this argument. In hindsight, it's very unlikely that the hush money changed the election outcome. And, it's probably not even the biggest fraud he had committed in that election -- it's just the one they managed to prove. Lol dum. Sorry to hear you're doing poorly. I'm doing great. Uncertainty and volatility tend to put upward pressure on margins. Because the future feels riskier, companies become skittish about winning deals on price that may end up underwater on profit. So, competitive pressure is reduced and prices increase. Now, things are feeling like they are stabilizing and companies are getting more aggressive about competing on price. As I would define it, price gouging is a practice of taking advantage of a big decrease in customers' bargaining power (like when they are in dire need in a natural disaster), but what we experienced was instead a decrease in market efficiency caused by the covid supply chain disruptions. The distinction matters because gouging is a moral failure by specific human decisionmakers, and market inefficiencies are amoral phenomena that happen without human agency. They can, at best, be blunted in their harms on people with wise policy. But I agree with you on the implications. Trump would have done no better on managing the inflation. And, if his reaction to the covid pandemic is any indication, he probably would have done worse. Hell, his reaction to the covid pandemic would have made inflation worse if he had been allowed to continue to manage our covid response. That seems to ideologically run counter to the point of crypto. Create a distributed currency that is free of any central bank or government interference, but then submit to government regulation of how it can be produced?
