have you seen anything about who we’re working out this year? i’ve seen players already visit the other top 4 draft teams but nothing reported on us. also if the rumor posted about shepherd preferring sperms over us is true, then like mobley he’s not even gonna give us a workout
It's the same eye test that compares him to Jimmer Ferdette. It has absolutely nothing to do with his actual skills or playing style. Also "Detractors look at him as a limited, undersized athlete". Despite the fact he has a 42" vertical and great steals + blocks for a guard.
I agree 100%. Anyone who takes the time to really look at Reed Sheppard will have a hard time finding any real issues other than his height which is somewhat negated by his amazing vertical.
Testing is testing. Scouts have inherent biases as well. This is my field, athletic testing/training and biomechanics. There’s nothing iffy in his agility.
There was a point in 2021 where a report came out that Detroit was “considering” drafting Jalen Green at #1 possibly baiting stone to trade up. With Banchero only the dinner picture was leaked and that draft was widely considered a 2 player draft maybe because the Rockets weren’t giving hints to the media
I don't think it really matters, but remember, we've confirmed he gamed the vertical by tanking his standing reach. He's probably more like a 39 inch vert and an 8'2" standing reach. Still a really good athlete though.
Oh, now I'm actually curious. Where would Sheppard rank in terms of agility among rotation guards in the NBA when you say there's no iffyness about his agility? LIke above average at least? Also who are the most agile guards in the NBA right now? I'm cuious to see what scouts thought of them back when they were prospects to get a better feel for this.
I'm still not sure how much stock to put into some of the combine testing, but some guy has a website that basically breaks down this kind of stuff (based on all the public combine data....which I guess is a bit flawed, but it is what it is): https://njk11.pythonanywhere.com/
He’s above average laterally, good in straight lines and vertically. Length is the issue more than athleticism. But he has no issue staying in front of his man when not free lancing
They have kept it very hushed. They have worked out guys so far, but not lottery type players. They worked out an American kid that played in Australia last year, a kid from Illinois so far. The kid in Australia could be anywhere from the end of the 1st round to not even drafted.
https://www.nba.com/stats/draft/combine-strength-agility?SeasonYear=2024&dir=D&sort=POSITION My guy :
He didn't really "game the vertical". He still has like a vertical of 40 inches, and if anything the standing reach is more important than 2 more inches on his vertical. He has an excellent vertical, and as important - he has a lot of hang time.
Reed Sheppard hot season (33 games against college players): He's amazing! Generational shooter! He'll be a star! Jalen Green hot streak (23 games against professionals): It's a fluke! Can't play! Doesn't even belong in the league! If you're going to continue to post one idiotic take after another, at least be consistent.
This post is clutchfans in a nutshell. I mean... I "like" Reed and I'll be excited to have him join the team, and see what he can do, but it's just amazing to me how polarized people MAKE THEMSELVES be on players. You guys... have no clue if Reed Sheppard is going to be the next Steve Nash with Curry's jump shot, or if he's going to be the next Jimmer. I personally would prefer to draft Sarr, Clingan, Risacher, and maybe Castle over Reed, but he's right there after these guys IMO. I don't think he's a dud prospect, but I ALSO believe he absolutely has bust potential. I don't know why people need to be all the way on he's a star island vs he's a bust island.
A couple of things. First, I think that the land agility test is necessary, but it is not a perfect substitute for how a player moves in a game. For example, a player can have an excellent lane agility score but may respond late to movement or anticipate poorly. Likewise, there are some players like John Stockton and Michael Jordan and Larry Bird that instinctually know where a player is going and they use angles well, they anticipate and cover most of the time for issues with agility. I compare it to a centerfielder in baseball. The kid that runs a 4.6 forty may not be as good at covering ground because his jumps or path to the ball may not be as good as someone else with less foot speed. As for where Sheppard ranks - he is almost identical to Stephon Castle, Bronny James and Jamal Shed. He isn't as fast as Isiah Collier, Devin Carter or Matzas Buzelis (who is an under-rated athlete, he is more of an athlete than a basketball player IMO). So - from an athletic standpoint, Sheppard is quick enough to keep up with most players. He is probably near average for an NBA guard.
Ehh...... what about the other nearly 200 games that Green has played? It really isn't a fair comparison.... I don't even know why Sheppard and Green are being compared, they would play on the court together and Sheppard would help Green get better spacing.
IfReed played like pure **** for over half a season before turning it on your comparison would have more weight. The main issue with jalen is consistnecy. If he played like his streak all the time nobody would say anything bad about him and he would have been an all star last year.
