I do t think Sheppard is that level of prospect. The Spurs ideally are hunting for a bonafied high ceiling dynamic guard paired to Wemby. Hence rumors of trying to get someone like Trae Young. I don't think Sheppard is that. He does have a route to be a competent floor spacing starter quality guard which is more than anything the Spurs have currently. But that isn't worth trading up for to draft first or second overall. It's more like "hey this player who fills a need fell.to us in a weak draft, sure we will gladly take him". I don't think they'd trade up for him.
And? That is literally the current conversation. You replied to me debating with someone else about why Sheppard would prefer SA over Houston. Why even reply to me if you don't want to engage with what I'm currently discussing?
If it cost them a SRP to move up 2 spots with as much draft capital as they have... why would they not at least consider it? I don't think they will either, but stranger things have happened. They also have players (Johnson, Collins, Graham) to package as well. If Sheppard is "their guy' in this draft, Spurs can make it happen.... IJS
It really is the quickest way for someone to tell you not to take them seriously either because it's them clearly taking the piss or is them telling you just how ignorant they are. Some I'll give the benefit of the doubt, but Jalen Green's Baghdad Bob? Not a chance, he's just an idiot.
Sheppard adds an elite skill that this team lacks even if he's not a 'star' ceiling type player. Elite shooting establishes game theory on both ends of the court.
As teams dive deeper into the top prospects, it's very concerning that one of the top two will realize how good Reed Sheppard is. At this point I'm not even sure who I'd want as a consolation prize.
well, if he does come here i hope you guys are right. i like the kid and will root him on but i'm just not seeing what you guys are.
Stone is the one that planted Reed Sheppard. The Rockets are generally tight lipped and all of sudden Reed is who the Rockets like as soon as the lottery ended and draft process just started? Yeah right. Seems like players are planted to 1. gauge interest to see what other gms/teams want that player. 2. Get another player to drop. eg. the rockets believe the spurs or pistons want Reed so they leak their interest in Reed, San Antonio or Detroit trade up to 2 because they believe he won’t get past 3. The Player the Rockets wanted drops because of this. I like Reed Sheppard just not at #3, rather go with pure raw potential to stash or bring up slowly
I read that and think VERY high chance to be a bust. Besdies Reed has a ton of raw potential and a MUCH higher floor than the type of player you suggest taking.
Rockets weren't tight lipped up until now. We wanted to trade up for Cade. We wanted Banchero. Now we're kind of quiet after being burned with busts.
They’re in love with a lights out 3 point shooter. Which is something the Rockets haven’t had in YEARS. Understandable, but he’s definitely being overhyped.
A better prospect? Probably not - but Sarr is very raw as well, and is far from a sure thing. I would likely take him over Reed, but there are questions about whether Sarr is a long-term center or PF, whether he will be able to shoot and will he be a solid defender or a really good one.
I don't feel like it should be a massive difference in playing time here versus there. Spurs have Jones and Vassell who will likely take the lion's share of the backcourt minutes--Jones showed a lot of progress on his shooting this season, as I expected, and I think he's going to have the inside track with Pop next season for the starting PG role. Vassell is of course locked in at SG. With the Rockets, Sheppard really only has Amen to compete with off the bench in the backcourt, and we can assume Amen will be used a lot at the forward positions since that's what happened last season. (Once again, let's say it for the back: Cam Whitmore is a small forward.) And FVV is probably only here for another year, year and a half. There's a clear path toward Sheppard starting if Amen turns out not to be a point guard.
