While he may not be the best player available, prioritizing fit over sheer talent is crucial. Many prospects in this draft wouldn't crack our starting lineup, but what we truly lack is a dominant rim protector. With the league getting bigger it seems like small ball is dying. Clingan can be the anchor we need on defense. Just look at our toughest game this season against the Wolves; their size gave us real trouble.

I wouldn't start him, hopefully one day him and sengun can improve from the outside.

Clingan is a non-shooter…I’m not holding my breath with Sengun either

Clingan made 2 threes in his 2 years in college and shot 56% on free throws

y’all want to draft Sengun’s 15 min/game backup with the 3rd pick and hope that one day a frontcourt of a guy that can’t shoot a lick from the outside and hits less than 60% of his free throws will be viable next to a guy who’s a weak shooter and also barely shoots 70% from the line…then a lot of y’all want “I miss jumpers like I’m shooting with my left hand and blindfolded” Amen Thompson to be the starting PG as well

You’d have a better argument if you said he was the BPA at pick #3. But instead you say he’s the perfect fit. I doubt this thread goes very far.

What transpired in the match against the Wolves? Our team seemed notably undersized in comparison, struggling against their formidable size advantage. I'm fine with him playing 15 min a night his rookie season, then again alot of these players probably wont play much either. His performance at the combine showcased some outside potential. Are you concerned about the trend of teams becoming increasingly larger? With Wemby's continued improvement, there's a legitimate worry that we may struggle to contain him in the future.
I like the idea of him in the second unit.

LoL Clingan wont even get 15 mins with Adams and Jock Landale fighting for playing time.

I just feel like we have our number 1 and 2 guy here already and I feel like we should draft a rim protector in this year's draft.

Good Lord, everyone wants to have their opinion as a thread starter instead of searching for existing threads and commenting in there.

Why should we be thinking about the Wolves when drafting someone at 3rd overall? The Wolves don’t play 2 non-shooting bigs like you’re advocating for the Rockets to do, and they never would.

no coach is trotting out a Sengun-Clingan frontcourt to annihilate all the spacing on the court

u don’t draft a guy 3rd overall because you’re worried about guarding Jokic, Embiid, Wemby, etc…Wemby is a unicorn, everyone will struggle to contain him…Clingan isn’t gonna be a Wemby stopper

I think Clingan will be a really good defensive drop center in this league for a long time. He’s going to be a good passer. His offense might surprise us. And I love the idea of him learning from Steven Adams. But because I don’t think Clingan will ever be able to play with Sengun, even if Sengun learns to space the floor, and because I think Sengun is our best player and key part of our future…and because I don’t think Clingan is necessarily BPA over Sheppard or Castle…I hope we take Sarr, Risacher, Sheppard or Castle. All better fits, all in the conversation for BPA.

    Clingan/Bari would be nice though.

There's only gonna be one player in the whole league who can stop Wemby. Wemby.

I have nothing against drop bigs but Clingan is not a Top 3 pick.......and should not be.....

You select balanced players in the Top 5.....or an otherwordly offensive talent as Durant or Mike.

Sengun stopped him during their H2H. Put up 42 on his ass and limited him to an inefficient night.

Wemby still has to reach Alpe's efficiency down low and Holmgren and Dirks' efficiency from afar.

It should not be a problem getting his shots up to 37-38% before or around his prime.

Drafting Clingan at third overall for the Rockets would be more about building for their future needs and maximizing our roster potential with different type of lineups and different type of match ups we can play. We are drafting clingan and hoping one day he can maybe turn into a brook lopez type of player for us.

Let me guess you're on the Reed train.

Two hottest names right now are Clingan and Carter.
Carter going top 10? Everyone wants to trade up for Clingan?
Should the Rockets take advantage and trade back?
Should the Rockets just take Clingan themselves?

It is lying szn & smokescreen szn.

Agenda pusher #1 might say: who cares about Adams & Landale, they aren’t part of the future. Draft Clingan. We can find shooting in free agency.
Agenda pusher #2 might say: we need shooting in the worst way. We can find a big in free agency.
Ime might say: the hell with all that. Let’s draft the 6’6 defensive guard. Or one of the plethora of 6’7-6’10 forwards.
Agenda pusher #3 might say: Clingan is the new center, Şengün is traded. REPORTED REPORTED REPORTED REPORTED
    :D
