The 0-4 start should have rung the alarm bells. After the 3 game mauling by the Royals sending us to a 4-10 start I stated he would be fired the very next morning. Crane doesn't care anymore.
I don't see how you can keep him past the all-star break. The injuries are out of his control, but his decision making has been so bad I'm not sure a healthy team would be able to disguise a lot of his blunders. He's just not very good at this unfortunately.
Terrible Contracts, Jeff Bagwell needs to be held accountable, no meddling in the Front Office, Only Batting Advice. Michael Brantley Last Year Bad Contract, Injured Shoulder All Season Jose Abreu Decline keeps going with no end in sight. Rafael Montero can't get the job done since his big contract. Should've been a Setup Man, not a Part Timer.
Alex Bergman .200, Jose Abreu .100, Chas McCormick .200 average. Crazy to think Jake Myers is almost .300 hitter. Jeremy Pena bounced back as a .300 hitter.
Can the Astros just fire this guy? Be done with it man. Knew there was a good reason why no one hired this idiot after so many tries in the past.
The guy has no MLB playing experience. Whoever supported his hiring in the FO needs to be fired as well.
An 8 year old little leaguer can see that Espada is terrible. At this point if the Astros don’t fire him, they’re officially punting on this season. He seriously is sucking the soul out of this team.
Abreu can't get around on a fastball. That pitcher was routinely hitting 100 MPH. It's pretty obvious what was going to happen....
I mean it makes sense. Chandler Rome isn’t writing those banana pudding articles or any articles anymore about clubhouse interactions. Espada was the snake.
I was in the give this guy a chance to right the ship camp, but now I feel like there has to be a change. Whether all of this is Espada's fault or not. This team needs an infusion of emotion. They look listless and disengaged to me. Espada unfortunately needs to go. I'm sure he is a great guy, but good guys finish last or in our case 3rd place in the division. This isn't working and you have to try something before the trade deadline and make a decision to fold up the tent steaks and sell before its too late. Unfortunately, this team will do nothing regardless of who the manager is if a certain player is still manning first base. I don't care if it is your little boy I have to bench to put in a better player, but its unfair to the others on the field who are pulling the weight.
Presley should not be pitching when the game is in the line in the 8th inning. Presley needs to build up his confidence in the 6th and 7th inning relief. Hader is pitching more than 3 outs more than I’d care for. If the Astros aren’t careful, they are liable to burn him out too soon. The coach needs to be held accountable.
Everyone wants to pile on Jeff Bagwell - but the decision to sign Abreu and Montero were made at the end of the season when the Astros were marching towards the World Series, and it was a move that the gm at the time (Click), and the manager at the time wanted to do. Bagwell did not really have much to do with it. Everyone wanted the extension to Christian Javier, and that would may still turn out good. The McCullers extension, again, had nothing to do with Jeff Bagwell but it was something that Crane and Click wanted, and Click got done. At the end of the day, when you have as much talent flow through the organization - through the minors --- when it comes time to pay them, you have to pick very carefully who you do and don't sign. The Astros dodged bullets with Correa, Springer, Dallas K. They probably wish they had kept Cole (maybe) and Morton. They have so far gotten great value out of Bregman, Altuve, Alvarez, Pressly. They have wiffed on the Abreu signing and they over paid Montero........ but overall their track record is better than average.... the problem is that while they had the farm system to plug some holes, it isn't good enough to plug all the holes. Regardless - the only real area Bagwell has had much impact on has been player development, and at the end of the day, Dana Brown decided who to hire and fire.
