It's games like tonight and yesterday why I have very little hope in the Astros salvaging this season. They constantly beat themselves, and are hamstrung by a manager that has a really poor feel for a pitching staff.
Long break in between innings though with the review, pitching changes, etc… I don’t fault him for that. Montero needs to be better. They all need to be better. Bad pitch location, bad defense.
Trusting Montero to pitch that inning (having pitched like three days in a row? LMAO) over Dubin was something that I don't think Dusty would be dumb enough to try.
We can’t seriously be trying to win this season if this is the type of **** we gotta put up with. It would take A LOT for us to make it to the playoffs at minimum the way we are constructed and even more so to overcome the ineptitude of the front office and manager.
When they sent Abreu to West Palm and brought up Loperfido initially- I saw a spark in this team I hadn’t seen all year. They were playing better baseball. About a week to 10 days later when they mentioned the plan to bring Abreu back after some FCL AB’s and a few triple A AB’s (which weren’t impressive by any means) the spark in this team dissipated once again. I’m sure no player on the Astros would publicly admit it- but they all likely questioned what was going on when they announced the plan to bring Abreu back- especially so quickly with no tangible results against sub par pitching. How can you sell your own team on being WS contenders when trotting out a black hole at such a premium position? That type of negativity is contagious. On another note, I wonder if Hader refused to pitch a second inning tonight. Montero went 3 days in a row- and Hader did not throw many pitches in the 9th at all. I was expecting him to come back out. Thought that was weird
He did… but he wasn’t going to be in line for the win no matter what. Leave Abreu in SF and let Montero/Pressly/B. Abreu know to get their **** together. Brian Abreu dicking around the last 2 games and running high pitch counts left him unavailable. Montero hasn’t had a strikeout in a week. Pressly just watching his playoff highlights while walking the leadoff man or throwing first pitch fastballs right down the middle. Taylor Scott deserves their game checks.
Was a long wait for Hader. I kinda get that. Martinez pulled twice in a row is inexcusable. Singleton was dumb. Abreu at all is a reason to get fired.
