I don’t know,” the polling guru acknowledged. “But it’s more than fair to ask.” Silver has long been concerned with the 81-year-old incumbent’s ability to beat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Silver caused a stir in February when he argued that there might be Democrats who are better equipped to take on the 77-year-old former president. Several recent surveys show Trump ahead of Biden in all of those states. I saw that piece and it’s disappointing that this isn’t more widely known. Instead we are flooded with rhetoric that Biden is responsible for high gas prices and did nothing to lower them.
This isn’t something to be ignored but there are several differences. Inflation is much higher in Europe than it is in the US and their economies are weaker. Also the US didn’t do moves like shut down all nuclear plants but is even building new ones.
