Bruh. You've brought the weakest of sauces to this thread. You start out by making the absurd claim that Harris is as corrupt as Trump and then when asked to provide ANY evidence of this, you cite an example of enforcing laws that were on the books. I mean, this is just staggering corruption in comparison to Trump's dozens of felonies, sexual assault, rampant fraud, and inciting insurrection.

Please, post any source you have of Harris' corruption that reaches 1/1000 of what Trump has done.

jonathan tooley provides the best defense left for trump... he is too old to fulfill the sentence in prison. Not that he is innocent. Not that the judge should show leniency for trump's good deeds and expression of remorse. Nope... because he is old.

So... given a chance to support your belief that Kamala Harris is as corrupt as trump... you dodge out. Not that I am surprised since it is an utterly specious and ridiculous position.

I actually agree with Turley here and my speculation is that this is a first felony offense will be taken into account. I don't expect Trump to see jail time from this or any of the other charges he's facing. I think the worst he will get from this conviction is probation.

I don't think most people want to see trump in prison. But I do believe he should be punished.

If he's fit enough for the White House, he's fit enough for the jailhouse.

Maybe you do a compassionate release. I don't think they are at all common in the US, but maybe we do him a solid. At least play the sentencing straight and let him do Day 1, if that's his sentence. And then we can talk about compassionate release. Why is everyone trying to think of reasons to not punish him before we even hear the punishment? So desperate to maintain two kinds of justice.

Not sending Trump to prison isn't just a matter of exceptional compassion. Given our justice system an elderly convict for a first time non-violent felony is unlikely to see jail time even if it wasn't a former president and someone running for office again.

There is also a very practical matter of how do you jail a former president especially one as controversial as Trump. I don't think you can hold him in a regular prison and still give him secret service protection. Even if Trump is convicted on all of the charges the worst I see him facing is house arrest.

House arrest would be quality idea. Trump is not only old AF; he comes with a Secret Service detail.

I would give Trump less that 24 hours to break the conditions of the house arrest, since rules do not apply to him.

FWIW Trump will start serving his sentence once the appeals process has completed, which should be a 18 month wait or so. Thus, no chance of jail before the 2024 election.

Actually, he wouldn't be fearing for his life in prison like other elderly felons. He would be protected, and not thrown into the general population. Also, what happens if that same guy is convicted of several more felonies in his upcoming trials?

That is for the judge to decide. Maybe he won't give him jail time and that's fine. But we don't need to hear the opinions of the entire twitterverse here. It is literally one guy deciding (and then an appelate system reviewing).

But since we're having opinions, what if like to see is Merchan give a sentence that is commensurate to the crime. Then, if there are issues of how you protect an ex-president like that, or a newly elected one, or an elderly convict, or whatever, let the appeals courts and the parole hearings board, and the rest of the apparatus deal with those issues after we get a clear sentence. Talking heads want an obfuscated sentence because they want to spin how it plays in a campaign. I don't care what the sentence is. I just want it to be straight.

You sentence him to actual jail time. Let the world know it is actual jail time. Then let him serve it at home.

I would love for that to be on the record and said out loud during the sentencing hearing. trumpybear would lose his s*** and might be just dumb enough to advocate for them putting him in prison just to prove he isn't too old.

That would be extremely Trump-like. He would send out to his marks "The evil, lying SOCIALIST, BIASED, JUDGE, said your FAVORITE PRESIDENT, ME! Is too OLD to serve jail time. I'll show him . He doesn't want ME to serve jail time? I AM NOT TOO OLD! Let's all tell him LOCK ME UP.

PLEASE DONATE TO MY COMMISSARY FUND!"

Of course it is for the judge to decide and I fully admit to not being an expert on our criminal
Justice system. From my layman’s perspective though it doesn’t seem like elderly first time offenders convicted of a nonviolent crime get jail time.

Good for them. But making 1 out of 10 shots is worse than most amateur shooters.

Spoiler because I really don't want to argue and this horse is on it's own memory lanes, but...

It's just the opposite. The main story has been shown to be inaccurate. The central NY POST story was about smoking-gun emails that revealed questionable business dealings involving Hunter Biden and his father, Joe Biden, particularly with a Ukrainian energy company, Burisma Holdings.

NY Post Story: Smoking-gun email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian businessman to VP dad

This, to date, has not been substantiated, and there is information (eg: ex-FBI informant charged with lying about Bidens allegedly linked to Russian intelligence) suggesting that the Burisma story may have been Russian disinformation.

ps. Memory is not a constant and it can literally be what you want it to be. So becareful with how you think and act. Facinating stuff. https://www.fastcompany.com/90745260/why-your-brain-is-so-good-at-rewriting-history
