Id rather have Castle than Carter and i dont even want Castle. Carter is an older guy and still a bad playmaker. He has decent defense for a shorter guard but thats really the highlight of his game. I dont like his fit as an offensive player in the nba. Hes not a good enough initiator. I think even as a secondary creator he's limited. And i know last season as a junior he improved his 3pt percentage but i dont trust it. His shot is slow and funky. Until last year his 3pt shooting was in the 20's. As a junior he was their leader and played the most minutes and led them to a mediocre record. I dont see the hype here other than he has some good measurables.
And still wont crack the rotation until year 2 of his NBA career. Might not even do so then. Carter will play day one.
I can almost guaran-dam-tee you that the Rockets will not draft a player at #3 who will not be able to crack their rotation.
I suppose it's possible that you are just being really dishonest, but yeah, I think it's most likely that you are just completely ignorant on this one.
it's reed or nothing for me now. no other prospect really excites me and i'd rather trade completely out of the draft. maybe a late first to snag Topic and "red shirt" him.
The guy averaged 29 (of 40) MPG, I'm struggling to understand where this "he's just a bench player" stuff is coming from.
It's one of those things that is technically true, but misleading. Earlier he was going with "Sheppard couldn't beat out Dillingham" which is just a flat out lie since they came off the bench together.... so just being misleading is actually a step in the right direction for him.
Wait, so you're telling me Sheppard will be in the rotation his rookie year? Is this what you, a seasoned Clutchfans vet, is telling me?
He will get a shot (no pun intended). If he comes in and is hitting those 3’s at over 40% he will get rotation minutes. Remember how many minutes Holiday got? If your point is he won’t see the floor for half a season, you are probably right. Ime will definitely defer to vets. Sheppard will have to be so good that it forces his hand. I think your premise is that Carter would fare any better in getting minutes is a long-shot.
Why wouldn't he? I mean, I get that you haven't spent any time whatsoever watching him play, but for those of us who have...yeah, he'd be in the rotation. He'd be a starter his second season.
I know a few folks don't think Sheppard can contribute immediately, nor be a part of our rotation. Let's take a look at where we're at to see how Shep might contribute early on. If the starting 5 are... Sengun FVV Jalen Bari Dillion Off the bench we should see... Tari (in for Bari or Dillon) Amen (in for Dillon or FVV) Adams (in for Sengun) Cam (in for Jalen or Dillon) If we start the season with these players in generally this configuration that's a pretty good 9-man rotation. The question will be who improves their outside shooting/overall games and how will that factor into the rotation equation? If Amen hasn't improved his outside shooting and tightened his handle, I could see him back in that dunker role. If that's the case Sheppard could earn early minutes as FVV's backup. If Jalen is still inconsistent, the likelihood is Cam gets more minutes in SG spot, but I could also see Shep getting minutes there as well. If any of the guards are injured, then Sheppard can fill roles as a shooter, scorer, and playmaker (while contributing on defense). While we might not have an NBA-endorsed superstar, we have a solid team and earning minutes for any rookie will be tough. If we draft another 4-5, they'll also have Landale and Tate to compete for minutes. Sheppard fills some gaps in the above rotation with elite shooting and playmaking. If we're lucky enough to get him, doing some time with the Vipers is probably not a bad thing either. However, as I look at this team there is certainly potential to consolidate assets at some point this season or next. Waiting for the right moment, the right player(s) is the key. The flipside is with NBA seasons' length having this kind of depth is valuable especially if we're fighting for a playoff spot. After the 3 years of hell, we're actually in a pretty phenomenal position moving forward. I know this fan is enjoying the ride.
If they start Dillon over Amen, I will be incensed. I think Brooks would be fine as a 15-20 min role player off the bench, but I hope they trade him. Amen should start at SF and play some PG when FVV is not on the floor. We have 2 SF’s in Cam and Tari that should be first off the bench along with Adams. This roster has great flexibility. Shooting is our biggest shortcoming and Sheppard could take Holiday’s minutes as someone that has to be respected on the perimeter. We really need to unload Dillon not because he is a scrub, but because we have 3 guys that play his only position better than he does.
Agree, if Tari comes back strong, Cam levels up, and Amen's shot improves--Dillon is a luxury we don't need. However, if a star becomes available I think Dillon becomes part of that package (maybe in a 3-way). The wildcard in this is Ime's view of Dillon as a tone setter for his defense. However, with the way Amen and Tari play D, I think they can more than bring with dawg without the downside.
