Biden's CDC has passed a rule prohibiting the importation of dogs under the age of six months from outside the U.S., effective in August. Supposedly this action is to reduce "the risk of rabies" in the U.S. The reality is that it will negatively impact dog-related sports from hunting to dog mushing, and will likely cut the importation of dogs into this country by (some estimates) 75 to 90 percent, as very few breeders in Europe, Canada, and elsewhere are likely to want to hold on to puppies until they are six months old. The risk of rabies from puppies is nearly zero. This is another excellent example of a Democrat-led/Biden-led initiative that makes no sense whatever. the practical effect, AGAIN, is that there are practically NO breeders who will hold on to a puppy for six months in order to do the puppy buyer a favor. Most breeders really, really want puppies gone at 8 weeks. It is extremely time consuming and difficult to hold on to a puppy for those additional FOUR months, especially when those are the crucial months for dog training and will affect that dog's behavior for the rest of its life. So again, read carefully: the practical effect of this regulation is predicted to reduce the importation of puppies into this country by up to 90 percent. And please . . . please . . . do not call me a liar.
