Mainly in a game match-up situation. Carter would keep the ball out of Sheppards hands. Thus, making him ineffective. Shep wouldn't be able to stop Carter.
Dallas was also 2nd in threes attempted per game this year. you can’t get past the math. Shooting 3s is good. Celtics just shot the most and almost at the best percentage.
And I like Reed Sheppard. But when I found out about Carters 6'9 wingspan, his defensive prowess and his improved shooting, I was sold.
Wow, sounds like you're a lot higher on him than anyone else is. I feel like you'd hit him with a screen if he was being overly aggressive and it would lead to open shot after open shot because basketball is a team game. Also, if he was being that aggressive he'd be very susceptible to pump fakes and would likely get in foul trouble pretty quickly. Who knows? Carter might end up a lottery pick, there's a rumor some team likes him.
I do not mind Sheppard at all because down the line either him or Green might become a solid trade chip for a Jrue type of player ..... that is if his shooting is really spectacular as they advertise. So yeah many roads lead to Rome.
If drafting was as easy as picking an NBA player you like and saying "What guy is the most like this" I'd love to sign up to be a scout lol
Yeah, Dallas bricked a bunch of 3's tonight, which is a sure way to lose against a better 3 PT shooting team. We need someone like Sheppard to make us more competitive.
Personally, I think the Rockets talking to Memphis about #9 is an attempt to get him before Chicago does at #11.
Just find the best player ever with your prospect's measurables and you have his comp. Then, if he's slightly better than the all time great at one thing or another just tack that onto the end. "He's Michael Jordan with elite shooting."
Maybe I’m just the dunce here but I keep going back to look at video as well as his stats… I just don’t see it at the THIRD pick in the draft. What am I missing here? I think people are way overvaluing being able to shoot the basketball and not realizing that it’s the NBA and there are no guarantees that this guy will be just wide open all the time. Maybe some of the time depending upon matchups but that’s why guys like this typically go in the 2nd round or late 1st as more specialists. We’ll see what teams see in individual workouts I guess. The college stats and video though to me does not scream 3rd pick in the draft.
I think what you are missing is his defense and his playmaking upside along with failing to understand that he doesn't have to be "wide open all the time" to get his shot off. If you watch his film, he can get his shot off on pretty much any play similar to Curry, it takes VERY little space for him to get his shot off and that little space is easily created with dozens of basic offensive sets.....but Kentucky rarely chose to do them. The fact that Kentucky failed to truly take advantage of their 2 most talented players....having them both come off the bench and rarely choosing to set up the offense to get them going is why the coach was essentially fired without being fired. They were so disrespectful to him behind the scenes that he quit so they could get rid of him without paying out his 33 million dollar buy out. Fortunately it happened often enough that we get to see some of the results of what guys like Sheppard and Dillingham can do when a team chooses to use them. Sheppard averaged 2.5 steals a game and nearly a block a game while leading his team in assists despite coming off the bench and the poor gameplanning that limited just how much he could do to help the team. We were able to see what would happen when the team did decide to feature him, and that's how we got games like the regular season finale against Tennessee where he scored 27 on an absurd 90% TS% or Mississippi State where he scored 32 on an absolutely unreal nearly 93% TS% with 7 assists 2 blocks and 2 steals.....then the coach would go back to game plans revolving around just dumping the ball inside to the bigs or running everything to set up 45 year old Antonio Reeves.....and that's exactly why they got booted out in the first game of the Tournament. So yeah, Sheppard being one of the best ever 3 point shooting prospects is part of his appeal, and if that was all he could do, sure he wouldn't be in the conversation to be picked at the top of the draft....but the kid is significantly more well rounded than that.
