John Garcia is the first player in the modern era of American professional baseball (MLB or minors) to have five doubles in one game.
I don’t know how good a job Brown will do long term as a GM - and I don’t know how much control he will ultimately have…. But I can say that he is one HELL of a scout and one HELL of a farm system coordinator. Seeing Matthews comeback hitting is a nice surprise in an otherwise unnerving season for the Astros and their fans.
It’s been really hard to judge the farm over these first 2 months. 3 of their 10 highest ceiling position player prospects (Dezenzo, Matthews, Cole) were hurt the majority of that time. Pretty sure Melton also had a nagging injury that has affected him.
I agree that Brown seems to have done an outstanding job in that first draft. I do not recall ever seeing so many guys just streaming so quickly to the upper levels less than a year after being drafted. Guys like Ferreras and J. Williams drafted in the 20th and 9th round. Bloss. Brice Matthews probably soon now though that would be more expected where he was drafted. James Hicks probably soon. Pecko is killing it. Langford was killing it before he didn't pitch at all in May. Nezuh showing glimpses.
I agree, but 5 of those 7 games were at home. It's hard to take anything a hitter does in that park too seriously.
I thought about that too, but i'm thinking more of just how I perceive their performance I guess. They deserved to get moved up. Ferreras is tearing up Corpus Christi now too as is Bloss.
Jose Guedez vs. Bowling Green: 5 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 5 K Guedez lowered his ERA to 2.98 on the year. He hasn't really been fazed by having to pitch in one of the most extreme hitter's parks in professional baseball as his ERA in Asheville is now 3.04.
In today's complex league action, Rabel Colon hit his second home run of the season in the FCL. Anthony Gantes, an 18-year-old RHP from Panama making his first pro appearance, struck out five in two perfect innings for the DSL Blue team.
I think it's possible that the talent level overall in AA is lower than it was in years past. I'm not convinced Pascanel is a more advanced hitter than JD Davis was in his post draft year, who never reached AA.
Alain Pena threw six shutout innings tonight for Fayetteville, allowing six hits, walking two, and striking out three.
Maybe Looking around st other prospects. Cole young is a top 30 mlb prospect in the mariners organization. Been in the Texas League all year and has a .760 OPS so not everyone is tearing through there.
