Summer League is for rookie, sophomore, and G Leaguers, unsigned free agents and undrafted players. You will have to settle for Amen, Cam and Reed Sheppard.
Summer league Jabari was hype, but no if Jabari plays Summer League entering his 3rd season that will be embarrassing.
a top pick still doing Summer League heading into their 3rd year is like a college junior still hanging out at their old high school Bro what are u still doing here?
I did see one old dude there last year. It was a former NBA guy who must have been out of the league and trying to work his way back through the G League. Can’t remember who it was, though.
Gang, I just want to see summer league Jabari one last time just to excited one last time about this particular 3rd pick… We seriously have some back luck, couldn’t get Banchero, couldn’t get Wemby instead we get Jabari and Amen…What could have been
If only you could get real NBA bench players to play good minutes in the Summer League....... I think SL could evolve into something more as well and get better competition over time.
Obviously he won't play in SL this year - but I want that mindset of him going into next season. He got into these games knowing he was the best player on the floor and wanted everyone to know, that he was the best player. He didn't force anything really, but he didn't hesitate to take his shots, as soon as they were there and to try to create as good as possible. He will never be great at creating his shot, but he can still shoot over most people and drive by overeager defenders that close out on him. I don't want him to be fine to score 13 points a game - I want him to go for 20 any night without forcing it.
Yeah his confidence IMO has always been his hurdle. He just has to realize he can shoot over most people on him, no reason to think much about it, if some guard is on you my guy just shoot. This was literally Durant's and Dirk's and KGs and Bosh's game for most of their careers. I'm not saying Jabari will be that but he has to trust his shooting and his height in order to go to that next level. He really doesn't need an elite handle to average 20ppg on efficient scoring.
You won't see Smith in Summer League.. he barely played last year.... I wonder if Cam and Amen will even play.
I'd bet Jabari's getting shots up on a practice court with other guys and hanging around, but no chance he's on the SL roster. By the way, can we get through 3 to 5 SL games without a top pick rolling an ankle?
Both Jabari and Amen will be much better than Banchero. Wemby is generational only if he can get a reliable jump shot and stay healthy, both of which are 50-50. Jabari is a better defensive player, better rebounder, better 3p%, better effective fg%. Banchero leads in total points and assists and makes triple the turnovers. Jalen Green averages more points and assists than Banchero, does that make him better? Banchero is extremely over-rated. I never wanted him and his usage is the only reason he leads Jabari in points. He will always be a better passer than Jabari.
About summer league. It is amazing. I got to go a few years back (Jabari's and Tari's first SL) and had the best time. Spent 7 hours one of the days just sitting and watching basketball with fans from all over the country. Otherwise would just show up to watch the Rockets. The Thomas & Mack Center was packed. Diverse fans treating a triple overtime game between Detroit and Orlando (I think these were the two teams) like it was game 7 of the finals. And then there's Vegas. Spending the nights at the MGM sportsbook betting on the Astros and spending the days drinking beer and watching basketball. Often meeting the players and former pros on the concourse. Ran into Mario Elie a few times and got a picture with Daryl Morey. My only regret was not staying at the Golden Nugget. Then I might have run into more Rockets players. My point is, if you have ever thought about going, I would highly encourage it. I can't wait to go back. Maybe this year to catch a glimpse of Reed Shephard.
