Spotrac had him as final year For a year and a half of him, I would put Loper in a deal for him, he hasn’t been what some expected, but the dude can hit and would make a huge impact
Trade for a manager that can win extra inning games . Trade for Vlad and a manager that can win extra inning games. Melton, Bloss, Corona, Whitcomb, Dezenzo.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/05/marlins-trade-rumors-tanner-scott-closer.html Astros get: RP Tanner Scott 3B Jake Burger SP Trevor Rogers Marlins get: P Shawn Dubin OF Pedro Leon P Edinson Batista P Forrest Whitley Burger and Rogers can be optioned and tinkered with in AAA to try to finagle a breakout next season.
Dana Brown mentioned wanting to add a lefthanded bat. Sellable LHB hitting well on teams poised to sell: Lamont Wade Jr. Joc Pederson Luis Rengifo Michael Conforto Ryan McMahon Brandon Nimmo Daulton Varsho Lars Nootbar Jesse Winker Ildemaro Vargas DJ Stewart Abraham Toro Jake McCarthy Wade and Rengifo strike me as good fits, as both can play multiple positions, solve a multi-year problem, and shouldn’t be prohibitively expensive. I have been a fan of Varsho’s for awhile. Conforto has always struck me as just a lesser, injury-prone version of Tucker, so I wouldn’t mind swapping him for McCormick in the lineup, although Conforto would just be a rental. McMahon, McCarthy, Nootbar, and Nimmo probably won’t be truly available, and none of the other guys really move the needle. Some hypotheticals: Astros get: 1B/LF Lamont Wade Jr. Giants get: 1B Jon Singleton P Miguel Ullola OF Chas McCormick Astros get: IF Luis Rengifo Angels get: P Colton Gordon P Miguel Ullola P Forrest Whitley Astros get: OF Daulton Varsho Blue Jays get: OF Joey Loperfido P Miguel Ullola OF Luis Baez Astros get: OF Michael Conforto Giants get: OF Zach Cole P Dylan Coleman
I really like Pederson as a fit for the lineup/budget, but he has not played a single inning the the field this year. I’m not excited about him or Alvarez having to be in LF every day.
Is he hurt? I thought he played an acceptable OF throughout the years. What do you think it would take to trade for him?
I think he’s seen his speed and arm degrade with age, and he was never great with routes/glove. A strict DH on a $12M/1yr deal shouldn’t be too expensive. Assuming Arizona doesn’t eat any money, 1-2 3rd tier prospects should do it. That would be prospects in the 7-20 range from Houston’s org. Maybe Pederson for Colton Gordon and Shay Whitcomb?
I like this one from our standpoint But they could likely get a top 50 type plus another top 100 type for Luzardo, he has two more years of control left.
Couple of pitching hypotheticals: Astros get: P Garret Crochet P Michael Kopech White Sox get: P AJ Blubaugh P Miguel Ullola P Colton Gordon OF Pedro Leon Astros get: P Erik Fedde White Sox get: P Miguel Ullola OF Zach Cole IF Shay Whitcomb Astros get: P Sean Manaea $4M Mets get: OF Chas McCormick Astros get: P Luis Severino $4M Mets get: P Ryan Gusto P Julio Robaina Astros get: P Jesus Luzardo Marlins get: P AJ Blubaugh OF Jacob Melton
Jake Meyers, Jacob Melton, Brice Matthews, A.J. Blubaugh, Jose Fleury, and Colton Gordon For Luis Robert Jr.
Jose Abreu Jose Urquidy J.P. France Joey Loperfido A.J. Blubaugh Shay Whitcomb For Sean Manea J D. Martinez Manea is under contract for 2025 Money would keep team just over $1M short of next CBT level.
Roughly fair but I probably would not do that. Horrible hypothetical. Not balanced and neither team would do that deal. Fair deal that I think would be fine for both sides; maybe take our Whitcomb and Barber and add in Zach Cole.
I would guess that you're higher on Melton and Ullola than I am. Of course you know much more about the Stros farm system than I do. What do you think a fair trade for Manea would look like?
