That’s unfortunate. I’ve got family members, by marriage, who are MAGA and generally we keep politics out of gatherings. I’ve still got good friends who are Trump supporters. We just agree to disagree and still get along.

Politics are important but letting them consume every part of our life isn’t healthy.

You are doing them a favor by removing your toxic self from their lives..... Good on you....

Democrats- "we need to hold hands and be civil with each for sake of friendship

MAGAts- "it's good that you cut off relationships cuz you're evil"

Then you wonder why disinformation is running rampant.

I don’t speak for Democrats but yes cutting off friends and families because politics is consuming your life isn’t healthy.

you might find it amazing but you actually can have a civil even friendly conversation with someone who doesn’t agree with you politically.

Bruh, he said he couldn't stand people in his own family that disagree with his political views so he cut them off. Why would it be good for them to have someone so intolerant to different opinions in their lives? You are trying instigate something that isn't it true. Typical.... Not surprised.

That's not what he said and either you know that and are gaslighting or have shitty reading comprehension.

Then why would he bring up MAGA? He does not believe, support or tolerate MAGA so instead of letting the political side of things go he decided to cut them off because he does not want to hear what they have to say. Oh my bad, its probably because MAGAS color is red and he don't like red....

This is a two way street. I’ve had friends who are MAGA who have cut me off because they didn’t like listening to me.

Conversation is where the truth is revealed, anyone who isn't willing to hear another opinion is blinded.

that’s the issue with these full blown MAGA types…every part of their life is viewed from a conspiratorial lens before we even get into the racist and anti-“other” talking points

I’m sure everyone has people they’re cool with despite political differences

however, there’s a difference between not agreeing politically and spewing subtle and/or overt GOP racist talking points and QAnon conspiracies 24/7…there’s no civil convo to be had there

How do u keep it civil if someone is saying your significant other is basically associated with groomers at the dinner table?

Nah, don't ever fight with and divide your family. You don't like what they're saying...change the subject, walk away, find a different room, different group, different part of the yard, whatever

That's my m.o. And I've seen families that refuse to be in the same room together, and that's the saddest thing of all.

It’s difficult and I’ve been in that situation when some of my family have repeated Fox talking points at Thanksgiving. Generally I don’t respond. As another poster noted they want their children to still have a relationship with their grandparents and I don’t want to create or add to divisions in my own family.

I treat them as I would like them to treat me. Not try to antagonize them and treat them
With kindness. If they choose to want to fo off about something political that’s on them.

At the same time I don’t hide my views. If asked who I vote for or what my positions are I’ll state them simply. won’t go on expounding on them or lecturing my relatives on them.

Obviously this is a two way street. If they want to cut you off because they don’t agree with you then there really isn’t much you can do about that.
