This teams approach at the plate is horrible. The lineup/roster has no rhythm/flow to it, and horribly made. There’s no leaders. Pressley has cost us atleast 5 games now, but they keep trotting him out there in the 8th. We’re waisting 2 roster spots with Kessinger, and Abreu. It’s time to move Chas, all he’s doing is blocking Leon and Loperfido.
Actually no. This team just feels different than years past. It's almost as if this teams identity has morphed into, been there done that. You could see it from that first week with the Yankees, the pitching wasn't there of course, but most importantly the little things this club has done was missing. We used to thrive on getting on base and moving the line over to the next guy no matter what the count was or how many outs there were. That's what made our team so dangerous from top to bottom. The carryover of last years struggles from mid-season on was evident without any appearance of them turning it around. It's as if the organization thought a manager change is all that needed to happen, but it's a band-aide for the attitude fail on this team now. Even Yordan appears lackluster in his approach on many occasions. This team needs an injection of one or two vet players (like Brantley or Beltran or even McCann) that can still play effectively and know how to calm down the rest of the players when they need it most. Correa and Springer were better at that than Altuve or Bregman and with Brantley gone I feel this team has lost its direction and drive to be the best every night (or to at least show that they can overcome an early deficit). Last August was a brutal wake up call for this team, however, the divisional collapse of Texas and Seattle allowed the Astros to still make the playoffs. Unfortunately, they let a Ranger team (that tried several times to give the Astros another WS shot) the series win. The Astros are stuck between adding to this roster effectively to keep it moving forward and what to do about guys like Bregman, Framber and Tucker when the time comes to move on from them. The adults in the room need to take an honest look at what they have for this team going forward and if that means scrapping this season for a better future I'm all for it.
Hey, I'm not totally discounting the leadership factor, but how in the blue f**k would *you* know one way or the other?
Hmmm, I'll let their record speak for itself. But you go on with your anger management class, didn't mean to make enough noise to disturb you.
It's really just Bregman, 1B, and maybe Yordan. There's no way other teams have THAT MUCH more speed, but they seem to constantly get "extra" bases. Stros just have some really luck going this season. I only listened on the radio today (and that was somewhat half-assed), but Pressly had two strikes called balls on his walk? The baseball gods are against Houston so far this season.
So you're just making ****...got it. Oh and I'm not mad about the Astros at all, btw. Also, if you're gonna "let the record speak for itself"... Altuve and Bregman in the Postseason vs Springer and Correa...
The sample size is large enough now that we pretty much know what we are going to get from these guys. There are too many issues all over the roster and the coaching isn't good enough to make up for it. This team isn't up to the standard that we are accustomed to seeing, but we all knew it had to end sooner or later. I'm not ready to completely write them off because they have earned the benefit of the doubt, but let's be honest, this group just doesn't seem to have it. Maybe it is time for a rebuild.
I'm done with Espada, it's just not working. Responsibility ultimately starts with the players and their performance, but Espada brings forth the least from these guys, not the best. Astros have lost 13 one run games this season already, and a lot of times poor managerial decisions contribute to those...a case study: Abreu not pinch run for in the 7th with an opportunity to go ahead- a guy that grimaces and runs like a slug. You want his bat to stay in? Questionable, but ok whatever. Then you pinch hit for the guy anyway?!!! Pressly has been bad all year, so instead of shuffling the order of relievers to put a guy like Tay Scott in more late and high leverage situations, you trot out Pressly in the 8th in a tie ballgame to get pounded...again. Moreover, if Espada didn't unnecessarily burn Hader in the finale against Seattle, maybe he could've been available to deploy today. Either start making changes to try to save this season, or punt on this season and be sellers. Can't just stand pat and hope things improve though, doing nothing actually harms the team worse, both near term and long term.
True... but Altuve, Bregman, Spinger and Correa all together was pretty good as well. I wonder what this teams record would've been with Springer and Correa instead of Altuve and Bregman, but that's speculation as well.
Easy to say now since it's the worst start since 2016. You weren't here before this season. You would've said the same thing in year's past only to witness the turnaround later.
Speaking of situational hitting…the team rarely wins in extra innings. Not moving the runner over is one big reason.
Just when you think a "turnaround" is coming they take two steps back. Bregman said that "cream rises to the top." Well, something is rising to the top, but it isn't cream.
No need to rebuild. They need to add 1. A high leverage bullpen piece and put Pressly in the 6th inning role. 2. Trade for a bat, Vlad is my favorite. 3. Bring up Loperfido and Leon. Send down Chas and Kessinger. Leon can play the emergency IF role as well as Leon. 4. First and foremost, hopefully Espada learns how to manage extra inning games differently.
