Crazy that Scott servais has managed to keep his job despite not much playoff appearances or success with a roster that has had a decent amount of talent for awhile now. or even the one playoff appearance they did have, he made some very questionable decisions that single handedly lost it for them.
Would be interesting to see this chart by team. How ****ed up would it be if the Astros were getting dead balls and the Yankees not. Awful lot of warning track flies Houston has had this year.
Someone asked if the Astros are talking trade and for who… Astros one of 5 teams talking to Blue Jays about Kevin Gausman. Astros also apparently are willing to take guys struggling, they have discussed Jordan Romano. Some big league talent would go out in a deal for Gausman, but a number of teams including the Yankees are interested. A’s have offered Brent Rooker in deals to various teams including the Astros for young pitching - they like Arrighetti and some of the arms in the minors. Jesus Luzado, Jazz Chisholm, Christian Walker, Kopech and Luke Jackson all have been made available by their teams. The Astros players most mentioned in possible trades are Chas McCormick, Spencer Arrighetti, Joey Loperfido, Bryan Abreu and Mauricio Dubon. Astros mostly want pitching- I wondered if Abreu would go to Toronto in a deal for Gausman with Romano coming back to replace Abreu - the name I heard to Toronto wasn’t Abreu, it was McCormick and Arrighetti being two big pieces with Montero possibly being involved as well. But lots of teams talking on Gausman.
ERA gradually becoming un-suck. ERA by month: March - 3.00 April - 7.45 May - 1.35 June - 0.00 He needs to be sub-2.50 to justify his contract -- and he might be there before season's end if Espada behaves with sense. .
Interesting that Yankees would have interest in Gausman. Before Schmidt got hurt, people were wondering who would get kicked out of the rotation when Cole returns. But I guess you could never have too many starters in the playoffs especially with pitchers getting hurt often this season. Would Jays prefer to trade him to a team not in the same division? Although not the GM, I wonder if Click will prefer some Astros prospects over others? Romano just went on the 15 day dl with elbow issues. Would that be concerning? Pass on Luzado. Walker would be interesting if they give up on Abreu. Rooker also interesting. Any word on who Crane likes it? Any chance at Guerrero or Alonso? Those seems more of a Crane move.
Nice precise info... I think the Astros have everything they need. The season has just been a big hiccup so far, along with a terrible string of bad luck. No way it lasts over a full 162.
Pretty surprising that the Astros are talking to teams about big salaried older players. Gausman’s making $22M/yr and has 2 more years after this one. Hes 33 and his velocity and overall production is down this season. Giving up Abreu and taking back Gausman and Romano doesn’t sound terrible, but probably isn’t a good deal for Houston if Toronto isn’t eating some money. I am really surprised the Diamondbacks are already presenting themselves as sellers. What’s interesting is that the net of a lot of those potential moves would be a big shakeup of the roster but also could make some sense in terms of total fair value: Out: McCormick, B Abreu, Arrighetti, Loperfido, Dubon In: Gausman, Romano, Rooker, Walker Resulting roster: 2B Altuve RF Tucker DH Alvarez LF Rooker 1B Walker 3B Bregman SS Pena CF Meyers C Diaz Bench: Caratini, Singleton/Abreu, Kessinger, Cabbage/Leon Rotation: Framber, JV, Gausman, Blanco, Brown Bullpen: Hader, Pressly, Montero, Romano, Martinez, Scott, Garcia/Mushinski, McCullers/Dubin
