Singleton’s defense has been adequate. The Big Jon haters on this board had to come up with something when he was playing well. They chose lateral movement as his glaring weakness one day and ran with that. It’s really not an issue though.
I mean, if you want to complain about lateral movement . . . Singleton isn't the one you should be focused on.
Till then, should he play everyday? Or is he now back to being a part time player which makes the ‘figuring it out’ part that much more challenging? Even at the expense of a resurgent (and better defensive player) in Meyers or a potentially more consistent (at least this year) hitter in Dubon, or Yordan needing to get more LF time at MMP because maybe he needs the field to get right at the plate (last one is a total guess… but some have said sitting in the dugout perseverating over every AB isn’t necessarily the best thing for a struggling hitter). It’s also not like you can just platoon him.
Astros medical staff doesn’t typically release anything till ‘after’ the surgery/procedure (or determination of the need for one) is fully done. Urquidy is certainly done for the year. He’s had a version of a shoulder/forearm issues for almost 3-5 years straight now missing significant chunks of time, only to rehab and make a handful of starts here/there (some of them vital playoff/WS starts). As far as Javier goes, I’m wondering if he has a thoracic outlet issue… something that has come up especially in pitchers who seem to need more rest/more down time after each start. If thats the case, his future pitching career is more in jeopardy vs. if it was just a UCL/rotator cuff problem. Then again, the Astros medical staff knew “something” about him after his promotion in 2020 and extending into 2021 that suggested full work loads may not be in his arm’s best interest. Doubtful they would have signed him to an extension if they suspected a vascular disorder.
I agree with all of this And Crane is already eating the Abreu contract, it's extremely obvious that he isn't just in a slump. And honestly, if he were hitting at a .750 OPS it would still be hard to see him out there every day because of how bad he is on defense
Espada needs to find some matchups that are good for Chas, get him in vs LHP, get him in vs guys he has had success against in the past, if he could have a few successful games he could get going and that would be a huge step for the team But as much as I think it's important to get him going, we are in a spot right now where the guys who are hot, like Dubon and Caratini, need to be in the lineup
Mariners next thirteen games - 3 v. Angels (21-35) - 3 @ Athletics (23-35) - 3 @ Royals (35-23) - 4 v. White Sox (15-42)
uh oh. someone got their feelings hurt. the tweet is no longer available. i wonder if it's bagwell who requested the tweet to be taken down.
Singleton's defense at first is no where close to prime Bagwell, Berkman, or Yuli... but it is better than Taylor Jones, Abreu, Wallace, Tyler White, Mike Lamb levels... at least by the eye test
I'm sure part of the issue is that Chas just isn't viewed as a high upside player. He is a hard working overachiever which is very admirable, but he is on his also in his 1st arb season when many players are free agents. Of all the players in the OF mix, Chas is probably the one the team has the least incentive to use resources to "get going"
I will never understand how Bagwell has become attached to Abreu as the guy who is singlehandedly responsible for everything involving him.
this is the play: https://www.milb.com/video/joey-loperfido-s-slick-play this is the tweet description by SC Cowboys: [Space Cowboys] Just a first baseman doing what a first baseman does.
We better hope to start playing better or we might find ourselves down double digits in the division race. FYI, our next 12 - 3 vs Minny (31-25) - 3 vs St Louis (27-27) - 3 @ Angels (21-35) - 3 @ S.F. (29-28)
