An interesting approach... advising others that they should focus on corruption, yet defending the most corrupt former president and current candidate by handwaving the crimes he was just convicted of (and ignoring his rape and fraud convictions, and upcoming trials involving mishandling of high security documents and attempts to overturn the election). Then criticizing others for "simping" for their (Democrat) political party, yet you simp for the maga party. Though I guess now you will claim you are an "independent" or "libertarian" now that its convenient.
Bob Menendez would appear to already be next. Don't hear any Dems saying "YOU CAN'T PROSECUTE A SITTING SENATOR!!!!! WITCH HUNT!!!!!" If you have any evidence of crimes committed by Nancy Pelosi or Senator Warren, then they should be prosecuted, too. Is there any proof that Nancy Pelosi's wealth was created illegtimately?
I am unaware of any criminal charges against Warren. She was in favor of the bill which would forbid congress people from the investments. Bob Menendez is currently indicted. Unlike indicted Republicans he is far behind in polling amongst Democrats. Rod Blagojevich was also convicted. He was a Democratic governor. He was a Democrat. John Edwards was also a Democrat who faced legal consequences for his crimes. He also was not chosen to represent his party when his corruption was exposed. There is actually a long list from both parties. I agree there are far too many corrupt politicians still in positions of power. I'm in favor of removing all of them from either party.
Sure. Menendez is on trial and in my opinion should've been kicked out of the Senate years ago. Henry Cuellar has already been indicted and should be kicked out. I have no problem with an investigation of Pelosi and if any what she did was found to be illegal she should be prosecuted. I said the same regarding the special counsel investigation of Biden. This the point though the rule of law should be enforced. What you're arguing is a whataboutism by downplaying the investigation, prosecution and now conviction of Trump by saying "whatabout". Ignoring the fact that Democrats are being prosecuted like Menendez and Cuellar that doesn't exonerate Trump nor lesson what he has done.
Trumpers gloating about how this conviction only revvs up Trump's support never can understand the indictment wasn't about getting an electoral advantage. I know and expected that a conviction would generate more campaign dollars for Trump and more determination among his supporters. That's not a pyrrhic victory -- it's a cost I expected we would have to pay to see justice done. Eh, we're well above average globally for minimizing corruption. By this common score, we rank 24th out of 180 countries. I think we should do better than that, but it's not like a median country like Colombia or Belarus can look down their noses at us about how we have crooks running around with impunity.
Trump had a more than fair trial They put their thumb on the scale in his favor .. . AND HE STILL LOST!! Rocket River
Why only Congress? All criminal politicians should be prosecuted. These are the few with clear evidence. There are others who lack sufficient evidence for prosecution (to secure a conviction). Some were investigated but prosecution was dropped due to insufficient evidence. Bob Menendez (under trial) Ken Paxton (unfortunately, he is evading consequences) George Santos (facing prosecution) Politicians involved in Jan6 attack and the Jan6 scheme (many are facing prosecution, and more may) Matt Gaetz (still under investigation) Andrew Cuomo (prosecutor lack enough evidence for a conviction; case dropped) Rudy Giuliani (facing prosecution) ... But let's also refrain from making accusations against politicians without sufficient evidence, including Congress as a whole. Such framing is inappropriate and unjust to those who, even if you greatly dislike them, are not breaking any laws. If you want to change the law to clean up Congress (or politics in general), I'm all for it. However, let's not use that framing as an excuse to disregard the rule of law or downplay Trump's conviction - the rule of law achieved a major victory yesterday. An example of a legislative change aimed at enhancing government integrity: a provision that renders individuals convicted of felonies ineligible for holding public office.
As of this morning I'm seeing more of what I predicted. More overheated and over the top rhetoric from Trump and his supports. More cries of "Rigged!" and "whatabout?" and even threats against Republicans like Larry Hogan candidate for Maryland Senate, who dared to say we should stay calm and let the justice system work out. We're not seeing them talk about issues like inflation or even immigration. If this is how they want to run the rest of the election by all means do so.
I expect the verdict to have 5% bump for Biden, in that some people will just say enough with Trump, and that is enough in a close election - to get away from the grifter. The GOP has had chance after chance to deal with the wart called Trump, yet they continue to fail, just like they have with the economy under every President they have had, and just like then, a democrat needs to come clean up the mess. Not a huge fan of Biden but I will vote Blue until the GOP shows some backbone and cleans up their own party. DD
The impression I get is that many of them believe that this is a winning strategy and that they believe most Americans will care more about it how unfairly Trump is being treated than whether they can address inflation. The impression I get from people Tom Cotton and Marco Rubio is they feel they have to go along with this if they want to stay relevant in the party. Holding a former president accountable is addressing corruption and reaffirming the rule of law.
These Trump supporters are mentally ill. "Look at what they've done to your son God!" a man shouted toward the heavens as he held a sign that said, "Free Father Theresa."
This depends on how Trump and Republicans are responding to it and how long. I felt that if Republicans were more muted about it and said things like "We don't agree with the verdict and expect it to be overturned in appeal" and moved back to blasting Biden on other issues this would have little to no impact on the election. If they are going to make this the dominant issue of the campaign from here on out and especially if we see as some are calling for large protests over this like they did in 2020 and 2021 this could be a bump for Biden.
Love how all the commie wokies are shocked Trump has not lost support, when you have fair elections and a fair justice system people don't doubt. Don't be surprised that Trump will grow even more popular.....
I think you're going to be disappointed. This particular conviction doesn't carry a lot of weight with people I don't think. It feels similar to the Clinton impeachment where at the end of the day people are going to go "ok so he did something wrong to cover up an affair. Everyone lies about sex." I don't think this impacts the election much at all.
