Bagwell once had a front office that put him on the active roster despite legitimately having only one arm.
Well, not gonna throw a huge celebration over salvaging a single game, but it was still a big win. Still only 5 back in the loss column, hardly insurmountable, but with every week of continued mediocrity the margin for error gets thinner and thinner.
- Never bat Bregman cleanup. ALL his damage has been non-4th - Arrighetti dominated, career-high 8 K's, career win #3 - Hader had no business pitching in a 4-run game, but was good enough - Astros avoid notorious history by scoring multiple innings - SEA won the Luck Meter this series -- 0 run-diff, got damn near every call and won a damn 4-game series Astros in dire need of a 9-1, 20-5 stretch. The lack of news about Javier's MRI is very disturbing. Brown and Arrighetti's improved performance is promising.
Career win #3 (3-5) He's been very pitchable his last 4 outings and appears to be finding his way in the majors. .
Plus these guys (not Abreu) are getting closer to “who they are” this year. More worried about the future turnarounds of Diaz and Chas given their lack of a track record. Is this like the random bullpen 1 year regression that tends to happen with those guys? Has the league dissected their flaws and exploiting them more because they’re playing more? Or do their peripherals suggest a combination of bad luck or simple adjustments that turn things around? Less concerned about Yordan/Bregman. Bregman being angry may help? But ultimately he should be batting somewhere in the top 4 of this lineup to optimize AB’s. Meyers/Pena are similar in that both having a great season but both shouldn’t be depended on having to carry the team and will have expected lulls. The hope is that at least one or two of the big 4 aren’t also slumping during those times. The frustrating thing is that this is a deep ass bench/lineup… but it is very much dependent on playing the “right” player at the “right” time. And currently that combo seems to be fleeting due to general inconsistency of guys expected to be doing better.
