I only speak for myself but I'm perfectly capable of seeing Trumps poor behavior and also seeing that people like Letitia James and Alvin Bragg are pursuing him for political purposes.
Yeah, I wasn't even talking about you, per se. You strike me as reasonable and I'm fine agreeing to disagree here. I'm not even sure that we do disagree that much. I will say people have a very hard time knowing how to handle Trump, and not just in national politics. Do you give an inch here, give an inch there? Let this slide, but draw a line over there? I think Dems made mistakes when the guy was POTUS (like rushing to impeach before investigating, in one case, if I even remember that correctly), but I'm also not sure there's one "right" way to respond to all the boundary treading and rule breaking chaos that seems to accompany Trump.
You said Hunter Biden was indicted….so yes. The whole Biden thing was politically motivated from my perspective. Trump was impeached for trying to get dirt on the Bidens…. So clearly it was politically motivated.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-68737723 I didn't come up with the use of the term "novel legal theory" - I've seen it mentioned before and you can see it mentioned in this article if you like. Not sure where the BBC falls on your scale of reliable or whatever.
This was written before the prosecution put forth their case so it’s a bit out of date. The crux of “novel legal theory” is that the lack of crime but the prosecution has argued that the cover up ran against campaign laws and tax laws. So the argument is Trump paid off the adult film actress and then covered it up by falsifying business records which run against campaign finance laws and tax laws.
I meant that as an answer. With a criminal president, both the decision to indict and to not indict can be construed as political. And voters have a political interest in seeing justice done. Trump camp has been using 'political' as shorthand for 'illegitimate.' But the electorate has a legitimate interest in seeing criminals prosecuted. So if Bragg promised voters he would bring justice and then he does, you can arguably call that political. But that doesn't mean it is illegitimate.
Correct, the Trump led GOP went after the Biden’s… plural. They got an indictment for Hunter. Whats the issue?
The date of this article does not change whether the prosecutions legal theory is a novel one or not.
If a MAGA Republican county prosecutor in a deep red county in Idaho or somewhere brought an indictment against Joe Biden based on what many legal scholars have described as "tenuous" charges presenting "novel legal theories" regarding alleged national campaign election violations which the DOJ has passed on. I would be pretty strongly inclined to view that as a politically motivated prosecution. I imagine you would to.
Of course it does. You are just clinging to this term because you are likewise politically motivated to protect elitist Trump. There would be no case if Trump didn’t run up against campaign and tax laws. No one made Trump run for president or seek political office but with that comes more rules and laws. Paying off an adult film star film is now just part of the GOP base but you can’t just falsify records when it involves campaign finances and taxes.
I would consider the evidence and the legal arguments. I also didn’t have much issue with Robert Hur, a known Republican who was not a fan of Biden, appointed as special counsel to investigate Biden.
Well Trump’s business empire was based out of New York at the time… You are clinging to “legal scholars” that agree with your political side.
I'm not politically motivated to defend Donald Trump. I'm concerned about the power of prosecutors, who have tens of thousands of laws [we don't even really know how many laws there are] at their disposal as weapons to be used against political opponents.
Did you have the same concern then when Trump campaigned on locking up his political enemies, asked his AG to try to prosecute his political enemies and is running on “retribution” against his enemies?
Here we go, looking like a mixed verdict, the question is will they take him into custody? Or will he remain out on appeal? If found guilty of anything that is? DD
