Law enforcement resources can't be everywhere at every place and we wouldn't like a society where it was. If someone though is very openly boasting about such things that might draw much more scrutiny from law enforcement.

This is why a lot of famous scammers were found out because they drew a lot of scrutiny to themselves through their words and actions.

Also one thing I've noticed in your defense of Trump none of it contradicts the facts and main argument of the case. Trump had sex with a p*rn star, and had associates cover it up. That cover up was to to prevent political harm to Trump.

That's true. They don't like him and they want to get him. Pretty obvious.

Again, why then was Trump sued and audited many times before he was a politician?

Trust me, I never paid a p*rn star hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid the information to get out and hurt my chances to win a presidential election. Nor have I committed fraud. Nor have I attempted to overthrow an election. Nor have I mishandled confidential documents. Nor have I committed sexual assault.

trump isn't getting indicted for traffic violations. The fact you try to defend him suggesting he is only speaks to the problem trump has caused his supporters and the country overall.

First they came for the game show hosts, and I did not speak out—because I was not a game show host.

Then they came for the narcissists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a narcissist.

Then they came for the rapists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a rapist.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Donald Trump is nearly 80 years old. His father was a wealthy Real Estate developer iirc.

He has been in and around big business for 60+ years. I would imagine that would involve some civil litigation or audits at some point. That's probably true of lots of people in the same or similar circumstances.

Before he was President/ran for President how many State AG were campaigning on the promise to get him? How many "novel legal theories" were being developed to indict him? How many indictments had he faced at all? Zero?

What happened between the time DOJ brought the case against Cohen and when they declined to take any further actions in the case, including against the co-conspirator?

Barr took office in February of 2019 and in July DOJ said formally in court that their investigation had concluded.

There was also a DOJ policy against bringing cases against a sitting president.

In 2021, they took another look but decided the politics were too much, given that they would be going back on a previous decision to then prosecute an ex-president. We know this from people who were involved in the decision-making in the Southern District of NY. There was also a major concern about putting Cohen on the stand--similar to the initial decision not to prosecute Gaetz for sex with minors because the main witness was also an accomplice in the crimes and had lied repeatedly. You can argue that DOJ is too risk-averse when making decisions about the crimes of politicians, but using the fact that DOJ did not prosecute to suggest there is no crime there is wrong, lazy, and does not take into account the full history of the case and the influences exerted on it.

It amazes me that Trump supporters approve of Trump cheating on his taxes, illegally changing the books for payments to a p*rn star, trying to insert fake electors in an election, trying to steal the vote, and overturn the results for power, inciting an insurrection and begging his VP to "do the right thing" which he had no authority to do, then leaving the White House with box loads and box loads of highly classified documents. Then, leaving those box loads of highly classified documents spread around the bathroom, bedroom, and other places that could be compromised by all the visitors, friends, foreign leaders and the rest who gather, party, and hang out at Mar a Lago. Then, defying requests to turn in all the documents for months, obstructing justice, and flat out lying about having them.

All of that........and MAGA folks call it a political plot, election interference, and Joe Biden being the crooked one. Stop being so ridiculously stupid and blatantly biased on what you consider justification to investigate or prosecute someone breaking the laws left and right. It's ridiculous. It's complete cult mentality. You are choosing to believe some sociopathic liar did nothing illegal over and over and over and over again. This is not normal behavior, and no, it's not the kind of criminal acts that should be ignored. Trump is the King of Denial. He is a lying sociopath, and he should not be able to do as he pleases, legal or not, as President, and certainly not afterwards, simply because he says he is running for office again.

Lol “anyone’s life”…. No need to lie.

Just because you are okay with lowering the bar for presidential behavior doesn’t mean everyone is.

Trump is an elitist who used to breaking the law and getting away with it.

In 1973, DOJ brought a case against Trump and his father for racial discrimination. He would not rent to Blacks and made sure that his organization supported that position. The Trumps took the first settlement offered by DOJ. They had to admit guilt. They had to take efforts to greater understand the Fair Housing Act. They were required to place ads saying they welcomed African-Americans to rent units in their developments. Trump then countersued DOJ for $100 million. He lost.

Trump has been involved in over 4,100 lawsuits, including 190 government actions relating to taxes, usually either unpaid or underestimated. He's had an active tax case more or less continuously since the mid-1980s.

He has not faced a serious criminal charge until now, though several of the past cases could have been criminal instead of just civil. Perhaps if Trump had stayed out of politics, he could have kept gliding by with his low-level crimes, but politics brings scrutiny and the temptation to engage in larger stuff. The fact that he has done things that not even guys like Nixon or Harding could stomach does not diminish the crimes. He's the first to inspire an insurrection, the first to violate campaign laws to pay off a p*rn star, the first to try and get state election officials to cheat, and the first to steal and mishandle classified documents. That these crimes haven't been done before is part of what makes the prosecution "novel" but it should not deter justice.

Right, so, politically motivated prosecutors decided to start developing novel legal theories to indict him once he became political.

    Just like I said.

    I don't love elitists.

I am however quite concerned about the concept of "prosecutorial discretion", who gets charged, for what, when they get charged, the motivation behind the charge, who is investigated, why they are investigated and how much government resources are spent investigating people whose politics the prosecutor or AG doesn't like.

I would imagine most sensible citizens would be.

I'm sure you'll keep this "the law is the law" energy someday if the shoe is ever on the other foot and Republican activist prosecutors or Republican AGs who campaign on "getting" particular Democrats start developing "novel legal theories" to indict them and otherwise look into every possible avenue to bring charges against someone.

I'm sure that won't be a problem for Democrats.

It has nothing to do with all of the criming the One Man Crime Wave commits. Absolutely nothing.

Al Capone had prosecutors looking for a way to get him. They couldn't manage to pin murder on him, but did come up with a plan to get him on tax evasion. Does that mean the prosecution was politically motivated? Does it mean his prosecution was unjust?

I'm not sure it required much searching. It was a hot topic of national discourse in 2016-17 how the Stormy Daniels thing smacked of a campaign finance violation but that you couldn't indict a president. All he had to do was remember that there was something worth pursuing after Trump lost re-election.

No... Al Capone had no political affiliation that I'm aware of... he was particularly targeted because he was an important organized crime boss and suspected murderer.

He was not targeted because of his politics.

Trump is/was being pursued by Alvin Bragg and Letitia James because he was a Republican President who was loud and obnoxious and deeply unpopular amongst Democrats.

    What an asinine comparison.

To me, a person who wants to see Trump convicted, I don't give a rats ass about his political affiliations. I see him like a mob boss. I am 'motivated' to see him prosecuted because I want justice wrought, just like I would have wanted to get justice on Al Capone. Seems like a very apt comparison to me.
