I simply don't trust this front office and leadership anymore. I used to have blind faith knowing full well that the guys running things were smart and calculated with each and every move, even the ones that didn't work. It was absurd that they gave Abreu only 2 games at Sugar Land (where he sucked) and then thrust him into the starting lineup ahead of the biggest series of the season so far against Seattle. Wtf were they thinking? Bring him back in ahead of a series against a lousier team in a less critical series.
I'm having a tough time watching the Astros right now while on the west coast. The combination of 9:40 starts and my apithy towards this team and the Abreau situation. At this time, I am placing more value on sleep than staying up until 12:30 and getting back up at 5AM to go to work.
The range of possibilities was the Astros could have been leading the division to being 7 1/2 behind. this is when they decided to activate dog **** abreu?
My take from Brown’s comments: Urquidy is almost certainly out for the season. Javier is probably out for awhile as well. Abreu gets 3 more weeks and ~50 more plate appearances before he’s released. Espada is not anywhere near the hot seat. He’s the manager this season, hell or high water. I agree with him in that I expect the current rotation (Framber, JV, Blanco, Brown, and Arrighetti) to have success.
I don't believe this team is good enough to overcome 3 more weeks of Abreu playing every day I mean if Bregman starts ripping balls all over the park, Yainer starts doing the same, Chas is given another chance to be a semi-regular and starts mashing...then yea But as currently constituted, we don't really have the luxury of throwing a .274 OPS out there everyday, especially one that costs his team games with his defense
We could have won both games in this series had they just switched singleton into the field and Abreu at dh.
B-B-BINGO!!!!! edit: i just think its cute someone's forcing a hand and playing 1B-JS as DH when one "'pro ball hitter" doesnt deserve to be in the lineup. they have EVERY say in the matter. as in I say we void this contract due to nonperformance/noncompliance.
Possibly, though the first game i'm not sure Jon makes that play either. It wasn't a routine play for sure. The timing of no one wanting Abreu back and the first play of the game going through him was pretty classic though Now if you want to say if Dubon was at 1B we win, i'll give you that. I know because of his size Dubon isn't a classic 1B, and Jon certainly is. And to be fair, Jon isn't bad over there. But on a hard hit ball that gets on you in a second, I would trust Doobie making that type of play. Doobie is actually a much better infielder than outfielder, it's just that our 2B/SS/3B rarely sit and he isn't the prototypical 1B
Actually they do, after him not destroying complex league pitching and not looking good at SL, they could have said sorry Jose, we are going to DFA you if you are trying to force your way onto the roster. They also didn't have to put him in the lineup against Seattle, and they damn sure didn't have to put him in the field The fact that they did says it wasn't Abreu forcing himself back. Now that might not be on Espada, it might not be on Brown, none of us really know that. We are enough of a shitshow right now that it's certainly possible Crane is forcing these moves. But if he is doing that, all the way to saying he must be in the lineup, there are probably not likely great days ahead Crane has been the best sports owner in the city of Houston's history, and quite frankly it isn't close. But there was a time when Jerry was the best sports owner in the city of dallas history too, when he hired Jimmy and let him run everything. As an Astros fan, I really really really hope that isn't what Crane is turning into
Altuve / Tucker / Bregman / Alvarez / Diaz / Dubon / Singleton / Meyers / McCormick .... this IS the way. (Caratini, Loperfido coming off the bench)
I am sure the time period- a month- was tied into Abreu agreeing to go to Florida in the first place.
Anytime there’s second opinions, generally isn’t good news. I’d expect both to miss considerate time.
