When the OPS+ is not just 20, but NEGATIVE 20.... that's a problem. Singleton is at 110 which is 10% than the average player. Abreu broke the metric.
If we just platooned Singleton (.775 OPS vs RHP) and Dubon (.901 OPS vs LHP) at 1B we would be getting more than solid production from 1B. Don't understand how that isn't the obvious solution here.
I honestly think this is what will happen from July 1 until trade deadline. I HOPE September 2023 Abreu shows up but don't expect it. If he is not drastically improved in 1 month DFA him. There are several factors - Bregman, Yordan, pitching moves injuries etc. That are just as impactful as Abreu for this team losing.
Jose goes to Sugarland -- Urquidy gets injured Jose goes to the Astros -- Javier gets injured AND the Stros lose immediately directly due to him Lawd have mercy on Houston .
Seems all the morning radio shows didn't watch the game when they ignore the defensive issues... stuff that doesn't show up on the box scores...
Fans are the worst when it comes to grading players defensively. To be a great fielder to an average fan is to be slow as **** but make few mistakes and have a strong, accurate arm. Like the more you try to make tough defensive plays the more you are gonna look like a shitty fielder in the eyes of Joe Fan irrespective of your actual fielding ability.
While this is true It certainly has no relevance to last nights game I mean if there is one thing I know, it is that Abreu isn't loved because he makes few mistakes I'll give you the slow as **** part though
That's sorta funny... I remember Carter made an adjustment on his batting stance and it led to better results. Can hope they found something similar to unlock Abreu.
This is insane... granted, I am one of the few that doesn't mind Yordan in the field, but forcing Singleton from first to DH is a downgrade in two positions offensively... but also a downgrade defensively as Dubon and Chas are better than Yordan playing left...
Been a fan for almost 30 years and this Abreu situation is the first time I personally feel like It’s a big F-U to the fan base.
A reminder... this fan base wanted Yuli gone at age 38 when he was hitting .242 BA, .288 OBP, .360 SLG, .647 OPS... and 8 SB with a 99.6% fielding percentage and near neutral defensive stats... Jose Abreu is no where near that offensively at age 37 and already has a 98.3% fielding percentage and -5 runs saved through one month of playing time.
